What's the reason for the reduced camera zoom?

I think they wanted to achieve more fps by making you see less :superpusso:

Its more dynamic that way.

Ah, I remember similar descriptions from "The Witcher". They offer several camera views there.
They say "The closer the camera the more dynamic and action is provided".
This might also be a valid point.

It doesn't really seem like there's more action or more dynamic to me... All I see is an ugly character model taking up half my window when all the way zoomed out. And an even uglier troll behind :P

Maybe with the new gfx it'll be a slightly less ugly character model filling the screen.

Yes, that's the whole idea of doing all of the characters again.
About the camera... more dynamic and immersion is also a reason.
Higher FPS also.

I think this is a sound decision don't you think? :)

Was hard for me to get used to at first...but I got a smaller pet and I'm ok

Well if people wanted less fps and more dynamic they had zoom in and playing with closer camera.
Now for hunters with big pets isn't much good. :(

I think you missed the sarcasm there.

This low zoom factor makes me nuts, chilko. I don't want to play an ego-shooter.

Possible if you get as old as me, you will understand that.

Re-doing characters may be nice, just keep away from caricatures.

About the camera, i don't find it improves "dynamic and immersion", it just pisses me off.
Higher FPS ? i had no problem with that, please add an option to increase the zoom distance at the price of fps.
Note that the camera position is not saved/restored between sessions, this is not very user-friendly, same issue with helmet on/off option.

"sound decision" .... well, that's an NGD decision so ....

PS; i bookmarked that link you provided about others mmorpg, may be useful in near future ;)

The hide helmet option is saved, upon login it just takes a while, maybe 45s, to hide it.

Hey, why not zooming in at max and fixing it to make Regnum a FPS? I'm sure the game will be more dynamic!

Sorrry, i'm wrong here.
The helmet bug is a different bug.
Helmet status is saved, but not restored on launch, it is after a long time (thanks for pointing it out, i never waited that long), or when exiting the options dialogs (no change in options are needed).

Whatever still a bug.

Could we have more audible warnings that there's an enemy behind us then? Cheers. :D

I just find you need to open options and close it again and your helm will be hidden. I'm into the habit of pressing 'o' twice on login.

OT: I also wish you could zoom further out, and don't really get the reasoning behind the change.

Well, but it raised problem with pets - realy hard to target a player with a troll. Maybe make tamed pets smaller?

i want my "FPS controller" the way it was before, i have too much FPS and i want to reduce them by zooming out (?)

seriously, we need more zoon specially in fort and castles doors, or when we play a hunter/conjurer with pet/summon.

I never had a prob with FPS due to max zoom. Seems this should be an option, not a zoom nerf. I liked being able to see more of my surroundings, including a better possibility of seeing the spineless cowards who shoot me from behind, lol.

did you ever try to fight from the bottom of a hill someone above you? It is impossible now, because you don't see anything.

lower camera-zoom is so bad....

I ma having trouble seeing the name and hp bar above mobs head, in particular the huge golems. Previous zoom was ok. Current zoom, i cant see all of the larger mobs when im fighting. Please restore zoom?
