Hello! I havenīt played Regnum yet but it seems cool. But I have noticed that this game has not very much players. Only 127 in world Ra. This game is completly free, not that this is a bad thing but with so few players and you get no money, how the hell do you keep these servers up. I just dont want to start playing game that may go down soon. So what do you think of it. Am I wrong or am I right? I really wish I could start playing this game.

And sorry for my English!

Regnum is a brilliant game ...... there are so many things you can do .......as you level you gain funds and that helps you buy new armour, robes ect .....
people are really friendly and are willing to give you helpful hints and advice , even come and help if you need , and sometimes when you don't really , but its always nice .....

and if your nice to people , they will be nice to you ...... we found a little patience and effort meant we could communicate with just about everyone .....and weve made lots of friends ....

HI AMIRAH how are you doing .....see you in ignis sometime ....

Hi!, I don't know how they kept the servers up, but soon the premium content will be available: you can play for free, but you can pay to buy special thing (rent a horse, buy experience scrolls and healing potions). The game has been online and free for a long time now (about 2 years? correct me if I'm wrong), and it shows no sign of diyng, the developers are always adding and fixing things.

PakisPaks preguntó como mantienen el server si el juego es gratuito, no como conseguir dinero dentro del juego :)

PakisPaks asked how they keep the servers online with a free game, not how to get money in-game :)

I should imagine they keep the servers going the same way any company does - anyway, dedicated hosting or co-location isn't that expensive - The developments costs are far harder for any software house to swallow.

As far as the number of players is concered, there always seem to be over 100 players online at any given time, and mostly nearer 300.

A simple sum - if everyone plays for an average of 3 hours a day (probably rather high given that most work) and there is an average of 200 players at any time (probably a bit low - especially recently)

24/3 = 8
8*200 = 1600 permanent players.

the reality is probably 6-10 times that....

With the premium content coming - Regnum should be here to stay.

More than that - the game is huge fun and still in beta - 2-4 years is a fairly normal dev time for a seious game, 2 yrs + can be eaten up just by developing a versatile 3D engine and the requisite tools from scratch - as an example, Quakes engine is still developing after 10 years :)

I have no idea of NDG's size, but they haver certainly been going for long enough not to worry about - it's not like they're a startup with this game or anything :)

Well,

This is a tough one to answer. Let me put it this way, we commited 5 years of our lives to this project and many more to be able to do what we like (developing games), so this project is here to stay unless some force majeure event happens, which is unlikely because we made it this far, so...

We did what Icckleblackcat just said, we started an engine from scratch (the reasons are beyond the scope of this discussion :)) and this is going to be the first game that uses the ng3d (http://www.devmaster.net/engines/list.php?search_id=cd185e7bf2c9735a1dc179db6895ac4 0) (oh boy, we need to update that) engine entirely.

And as I usually tell all of our users, you haven't seen nothing yet. Our plans are to launch the game, and then add over time everything we couldn't get into due to time contraints. And as I keep saying, there is a LOT of room for improvement.

Regards

There is a saying that I like to say every once and awhile. The saying is "good things will come to those that will wait". I believe firmly that NGD is doing the best they can with the resources they have to work with, and in time as the game is released more and more great ideas and improvements will be made to the game. I think for NGD the most important thing at this moment is getting the bugs worked out, so that the game can be released. I think many of us will continue enjoying Regnum Online for many years to come. I know I will. :beerchug:
