View Full Version : The halloween event shows pretty well that...

Some minor points that immediately came to my mind with playing during the halloween event.
... (1) there can be much action and fun in the game.
Now there is much more war going on in the warzone. Fights are happening on nearly every fort (and saves as well :/)
Grinding spots are nearly empty.
Why isn't there so much action everytime? :p It just shows that RvR in this game is not important enough. Now people fight for stupid masks like crazy fools :D
I think it should be more rewarded with costumizing stuff. Giving more appeal to war could improve the gameplay in war zone a lot, as it is now during the event.
The war zone is quite dynamic at the moment, I think! Very good!
... (2) RO gameplay mechanics are not be made for such big fights. In the laaaaaaarge crowds it's impossible to select a special enemy you want to target. You just click one and spam your areas. Coordinated attacks are very very hard to perform. FPS and lag are aweful which makes it even harder.
Additonally there is the problem with sultars terror that is currently discussed in another thread. An army can be knocked for minutes if timed well.
... (3) all classes have a real meaning in the game, except hunters. I already mentioned that grinding spots are mostly empty now, so you cannot go on a decent hunt trip.
In RvR it's very hard to play a hunter successful. No useful areas to use, selective operations impossible because of the points mentioned in (2). But I think this applies to nearly all classes.
So all in all the event shows that there is quite a lot of potential in the game but due to performance and game mechanic reasons it's mostly unplayable (for me at least).
I'm doing fine with my hunter, but then I'm configed to do more control than anything. By using 17 tricks I can greatly assist my mates..

I think that the lag/fps issues are mainly for RA server, when I've visited Ra yestarday i really couldnt play and i wasnt even in a war due to a lag so i had just a short hunt trip :/
For Horus it's way better.
But yea the lag kills the fun

A+ to this post.
When will NGD realize that gameplay-gameflow is more important than shiny new graphics? they really should be focusing more on correcting the awful, awful lag problem in large battles, and the broken/unbalanced powers, instead of making prettier scenery. I don't want to look at a tree or a rock, i want to click on enemy, have him stay selected, and destroy him/her with extreme prejudice.

i believe, that new engine adresses lag a bit. haven't tested it on amun yet, as my graphics card was unsupported. engine normally is more than just new, shiny graphics.

We know this guys.
This is why we are working on a new engine mainly, not because of the graphics.

New engine with most things off/low will look not much better than the current graph, but should give better fps less freezing etc, at least thats how I understand it :)

I don't know for you but my game is laggy not because the network but low fps. Of course the ping is higher with this event but most of the time is correct, only fps are low ~15/10/5 fps.
If the new engine give more fps, that what people call "lag" can be reduced a lot.

Thank you for timely response, and for your time.
I hope you guys can get to fixing some of the issues around spells sometime soon as well.

it's good to see action, but it's only happening in fort fights, and they are rarely fair :/ it's called war zone not fort zone

In principle hunters could also coordinate, camo into an enemy group and do a joint repetition shot. Its a matter of coordination and you dont have a nice "oh everyone is knocked i should run in front and cast terror" moment - dm proposed this years ago. Its not as easy as chaining terrors, but on the other hand it does 30-50% more damage (on mages...personal experience on other classes is rather limited).
Also in these fights ive seen lots of people retreating with low hp and thought of them as easy prey to an enemy hunter. But luckily there never was one. From my perspective as non-hunter theres interesting possibilities to use the class.
They require coordination, yes. But arent we talking about RvR? So you should require coordination to be effective as any other class does.
I totally agree on the terror issue, the skill is definitely unbalanced with the continuous knock when theres a certain number of locks present.
Also i found the present fights an interesting mirror of the support class design flaws. Check the war groups, you will see more conjurers with summons than without. And the rest can merely cast areas, directed healing of targets is just impossible.
Still, this event brought up the best memories of action in game for quite a long time. I wish you would have thought of this earlier & would repeat it more frequently. How about a "capture forts for xxx minutes" event to get a mask the next time? It would prevent ignis from camping imperia save all day.

directed healing of targets is just impossible.

This is a real problem for support healers right now.
It is almost impossible to single out a desired target in a big group.
It isn't even easy to select targets in a small group.
A solution might be to have a small 'vitals' tab on the side of the screen for all those in your party. The tabs can show you who is on low health.
Then instead of having the fiddly business of selecting a character amongst a group, all you need to do is select the tab of the person you want.
When you select the tab you select the person, heal them, select the next tab, and so on.
It would still be difficult to select people who aren't in your party, but at least it would be an improvement.

directed healing of targets is just impossible.
Although it is kinda off topic the biggest problem I have with targeting is not only single someone out in a packed group but also with the movement speed change and the left click hold turns camera changes. If camera changes were a little less fast to react - similar to the ugly workaround on linux - it might be easier.

Dear NGD I hope you fix Imperia Castle. It is currently the most laggy place in Regnum.

+1 from me for this thread.
I dont have problems with lag.
I want to emphasize your point one that says that is many ways for active wz.
I think that would be nice for players to get some exp in war, instead only from grinding. As a matter of fact, they ARE getting some real experience, but it is not of use for level up.
