Hi all,
i did some tests in order to know which OS/libraries have a better support for RO.

My hardware:
CPU: Intel Pentium E5300
GC: NVidia GeForce 9500GT 512MB

Ram: 3GB

Advanced options:
Anisotropic Filter: 1x
Antialiasing Filter: 2x

Terrain Details: Unchecked
Object View Distance: Very High
Water Quality: High
Local Lighting: Checked

Nah, I think this "benchmark" would just have some sort of meaning if you use the same renderizer on both systems. OpenGL and windows would be interesting.

EDIT: And what shader model are you using in the both tests?

Hi,
ok this time i did the same tests with OpenGL as renderizer on both OS.

====================
Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)
====================

NVidia drivers: 196.34 Beta
Average FPS: 75-77
Renderizer: OpenGL
Shader model: 3.0

====================
Kubuntu Karmic (x86-64)
====================

NVidia drivers: 195.30 Beta (Updated yesterday)
Average FPS: 70-74
Renderizer: OpenGL
Shader model: 3.0

That's pretty equal.
The Shader model 3.0 is acting really weird though from my experience.
I get better FPS with 4.0 than with 3.0, and much better graphics.

Another thing that would be nice to test is the FPS on other distros with the same hardware, to see how much that affects performance.

Nice. It's almost equal though :)

Just tried on Fedora 12 and well, still a significative increase of fps equal to 10-15 more than Ubuntu 9.10.

About graphics images speak for themselves, i wont start an API's war, but personally i think RO under D3D is best in quality and prestations.
