View Full Version : Bug fixed regarding phantom blows

we found a simple bug that may add a lot of phantom swings ON TOP of the positioning issues.
We have just made a small update with a fix.
please report here if you find any improvements with your warriors.

PS: besides this, we are still working on the new network code / positioning system. we will start doing public tests in about 10 days.

Thank you for the update, any improvement is welcome. I will report back once I give it a good run.
10 days sound nice but don't feel too forced to rush it out prematurely, I am sure the community can bear up a little longer in the hopes of the best polished implementation possible.

I was just playing my knight and against mobs there was usually 1 norm 1 phantom now there is only the norm so for me Phantom swings have been fixed ty. :D

I made some tests on mobs, and yes I got no more phantom swings.
Even the one when you are knocked down seems to have disappeared.
I need more tests on real wars, Horus is too quiet right now. But I think you fixed it. :D

so far i haven't had 1 phantom swing from what i can see - which is awesome! now work on the network code and take off this lag so i can play more :P

EDIT: I did just experience a non-swing on a mob. But that's mentally like a bonus.
2nd EDIT: Also, can people pls test using feint on the run? could be my imagination but it might be working again finally.
3rd Edit: Definitely seems like Feint again casts instantly (even on the run) as it used to. GREAT JOB NGD.
HOWEVER, some phantom swings in PvP still exist, but they're the normal kind wherein someone was perhaps momentarily in range, and then out of range. When standing still fighting another player or not chasing someone just out of reach, the in-between-real-swings-phantom-swings seem to be gone. in other words, it seems like as long as I am legitimately in range, I dont experience phantom swings.

Wow, I was fighting for around 10 minutes just now and...
ZERO PHANTOM SWINGS! Thankyou NGD!
I tested this on mobs and so far out of 130 swings I registered 1 phantom. As far as I am concerned this is a solution to that problem. It might be too early but I would cautiously say that is one you can tick off your to do list.
Against opponents it was more difficult to see but I have not detected any phantom swings at all. Feint does 'appear' more fluid. Good job NGD . Based on the size of the patch this one must be one of those needle in a haystack type things.
Congrats and I hope your next endeavour (positioning system) goes just as well.

When testing plz try and use v-slow maces or hammers - these weapons seem to have the most issues with phantom swings...

Better late than never, this fix is AWESOME....Tested it not long ago and it's SO much better! It may be *WAY* overdue, but it IS a true and actual FIX.

great! I was able go and grind on my low lvl knight and only saw two phantom swings throughout :D

I really hope that was sarcasm....
TO put it in perspective, having phantom swings would be like your archer not having tricks or evasion. It just sucks.
If you're a mage, imagine not having ambitious sacrifice, It just sucks.

It is when your character looks like *he's performing an attack (i.e. the attack animation is played) but no attack is performed.

My barbarian is now attacking like he should (with very slow, slow, AND medium weapons)! I may level it to 50 after all. Great job, guys.

I dont want to be a noobcake but can someone explain to me what that is cant fin anything on google, actually I cant find anything that actually is useful.
i try to explain better:
with my knight, i've a very nice sword, fast with atksp bonus and, my knight
can have a 15% atk spd bonus if i sum my sucky equip, and 1 RoL (hope to
find someone who sell one? LOL) so i can reach the very fast speed (25% circa right?)
ok... that's upper is the prequel, now the "fun" parts:
when i attack with this setup i do just 1 real atk and 2-3 phantom swings circa...
so pratically i attack worse than a very slow usually... this let me rethink and my
wonderful sword go to stash... :D
funny not?
so tomorrow morning i'll try if this sucky phantom swings are gone to hell, and
if true i can try this setup without "screaming offending all that appear on my screen
cause i can't hit none..."

Phantom's are almost gone, I say almost because I seem to still swing them when I'm knocked down.
And also, one more new thing(bug?) has now surfaced. I seem to hit/do normals even without swinging at all now, at times.
I will try to cap this on video if possible and post here but not sure of the exact times it seems to happen, so a little hard but nonetheless I'll try.

I still get them infrequently, but they are vastly improved.
The most notable scenario when I still encounter them is when giving chase to a fast running target.

this is because of the positioning issues, remember that you are running xxx miliseconds ahead and you see everyone else xxx miliseconds behind because of network lag

After more tests against real enemies, I'm experiencing very few phantom swings now. Here they are:
1- when you are knocked down by a kick, an ambush, a sultar, or anything else, if you are close to your selected target, you stand up, perform a phantom swing and go down until the next phantom hit or the spell ends.
2- if an enemy try to avoid you with a sprint spell or on horse, you also have a good chance to perform a phantom hit.
Point 1 is clearly a bug not yet fixed. It exists since the first implementation of phantom swings.
Point 2 is IMO the expected behaviour of NGD. Anyway this enemy will leave you behind.
And also, one more new thing(bug?) has now surfaced. I seem to hit/do normals even without swinging at all now, at times.
That kind of behaviour appears when you put your char "on-guard" very close to your enemy. I never saw that kind of behaviour in another case.

Is it possible that the indicator messages come late? On several occasions I hit and think it was a phantom only to get the indication (visual feedback) of evade, damage or whatever , about 1 second later. If this happens it is the lesser of the 2 evils as my hits are at least registering. It is just that the visual feedback is late at times. In rare circumstances, I do 2 hits and after the 2nd ends I get the feedback result of the 2 hits. This is not frequent though. This could be due to lag but it has never happened before so I really don't know.

Like Jbhero, I have noticed when grinding for about 1 hour 2 occasions where I 'hit' without playing a hit animation, but this is VAST improvement on the countless pswings I was getting before, I havent noticed this in war but have only played 2 or 3 conflicts today and may have missed it in the whirl of combat, will keep an eye out for it.

I've been grinding and warring with my knight, and everything people are saying in this thread is essentially true.
---> Phantom Swings are vastly reduced.
---> The only remaining phantom swings seem to be due to network lab/position issue or some other infrequent affect.
---> Occasionally I will hit without swinging on mobs and players.
---> Feint and other instant cast warrior spells work better now, more fluidity.

Just played for a while. Didn't feel any frustration playing my barb. About time it got fixed.(So I take, whining all over the forum for months is the way to have obviously huge bugs like this fixed?)
Haven't tested it enough to find out what new bug might have been introduced. But thanks anyway.

I can imagine Chilko 3 inches away from the computer screen scouring the mountain of Regnum code, then almost crying with joy at finding the tiny bug.
Or maybe that's just my mind going loopy at 12:40am. Either way, you all deserve a round, you've officially fixed an EXTREMELY annoying bug. :)

Yes, I perform a phantom swing on frozen target, I forgot this case.
Not yet noticed anything with "cannot attack", I'll check better.

I still have phantom swings when I get the "out of range" message, the problem is that I use a very slow weapon. So, If I get that message and instantly get into range, I have to wait the weapon's speed delay thanks to those phantom swings.
But I think it was a great fix, I had to play for some time to get a few phantom swings.
When you fix the positioning system, it will be great for warriors.

Well not realy ..there are new think but arent phantom swings...
I get with slow wepons hits on log but animation not move...and animation still make ghost swings when i am out of range.

I can say phantom swings are drastically reduced and missing the odd animation isnt that awefull if I still get the hit.
Its far easier to get hits to launch than it was.

A MMO's code is very complex, if you have a 'wtf' bug like phantom swings where you have no idea whats causing them it can take a very long time to figure it out, and depending on the nature of the problem can take a very long time to fix.
With time being spent elsewhere on ongoing updates and new content finding the time to fix a 'wtf' can be hard. And remember Kailer has been out of action for a while too with his illness.
Im just glad its sorted, it must have been a challange.
