View Full Version : Would it be unbalancing if warlocks could target spells at doors?

Go with me on this.
1) Fort doors could come down easier, meaning more engagement instead of fort-farming-from-safety.
2) Warlocks become a class that players might spend more time protecting, along with barbs. (not that they really need this tho, as I think it's actually slightly easier to stay alive as a lock)
3) Mana spells become more important at the conflict by the door for both sides of the fight, which might help with class balance in a way. (mana comm for attackers, mana drains for defenders)
Thoughts? Whats the major imbalance from this?

Will be nice flames going when someone starts to piss off all with freezing the door ^^
No really, i dont think that would work out. Conjs inside matwalling, healing and dispelling the door while being completely safe from being attacked isnt goin to work.

I don't think this is a great idea.

Well, I do
Seriously more people would choose warlock(actually thats not really what we need) but then we would have more activity, we wouldnt need so much barbs so yeah more activity and it would stop the annoying kills from Syrtis at aggers then the door would go down way faster!
And then the real war could start!
Nice idea +1

I don't like this idea.
Warlocks aren't supposed to bash doors, but instead crowd control and kill incoming enemies. It's better to let warriors keep the door-knocking job, otherwise they lose only of their few (maybe only?) roles.
Besides, if there are no enemies to kill then the Warlock can always provide mana to the warriors and archers that need it, so I think it's unnecessary to allow spell casting on the door.

I couldn't help but notice, most of the comments against this are syrtis.... I think its a great idea.
It give the warlock something to do besides watching the zerglets get rezzed inside the lvl 4 fort after they sultar them.

I like this idea, if you can hit something with a hammer you definitely could hit it with a meteor.
I would also like to see walls made attack-able (by all classes).
Hi all, I am back from absentia. Rather than comment on the OP's original idea directly, this to me, seems to be a solution for a symptom and not a solution for a root problem.
The root problem is of course that the fort and castle attack/defense system is dated, stale, scripted and unimaginative. What is required (been calling for this a while now) is a total revamp of the concept of fort and castle structures and their options for attack/ defense.
Until we see bigger forts with proper keeps inside, good balanced terrain for attack/ defense outside the fort, interesting fort upgrade options, siege equipment for invaders, imaginative defense structures inside the fort, and ancillary structures outside the fort, things will remain the same. A new way to bash a gate is not a solution to the root problems . It may provide a temporary (stress temporary) rush to the players involved though.

My mainchar is a lock and i dont like it. Locks are already pretty good in war, great dmg, many areas and range. breaking the door is the warriors and archers role.

Don't think it's a good idea either spells on a door would look stupid. Maybe a spell that only works on doors or something that won't look so retarded would be ok but otherwise I can't think of a way to make this work.

It would make much more sense to me to make warrior spells work on doors although I don't really think that would work either. Please don't give away my role in war. The door breaking is all I've got!:superpusso:

Indeed, I wonder what would happen to barbs if such thing was inplemented. We have so few already...
We need incentives for players to pick barbs, not warlocks.

Yeah, it was more of a brainstorm I had in-game and felt like sharing. I essentially completely agree with you. I would like to see the fort structures redrawn so that proper keeps/towers exist and allow for archers/mages to shoot down from them in an effective manner. I'd also like to see the fort upgrades affect the npc guards more than anything, rather than the door. I like what you say here, however, your ideas are harder to code :)

breaking the door is the warriors and archers role.
I agree with this. Because what is others the role of archers and warriors?
With kind regards

So more warlocks, less barbs, nice to see your supporting the campaign to just kill off warriors altogether.
I think doors are fine as they are.

agreed, warlocks don't need anymore help. Sorry if they can't smash their way thru everything. :tsk_tsk:
sorry but that was a stupid question. locks are unbalanced and overpowered on their own. and yes barbs only use is being a door breaker what would they do if door would be down before they even got there.
but after mages get nerfed to death, we can talk about locks casting area spells without having to target someone.
