View Full Version : See the warzone on your desktop!

Its been a while since my original post so I'm here to say it again.
Regnumstats is a project I made that allows you to open a little widget/gadget/window that allows you to see the WZ stats for your server(be careful which one you download).
It has a PIN function which removes the boarder and kinda blends it into your desktop, but the Pin function only works in a few window managers.
Regnumstats is cross platform, it runs on Linux, Windows, and should run on OS X even. For Linux users with Conky installed there is also a Conky script to flawlessly display(in color) the warzone stats, and its easily added to your Conky config(see http://code.google.com/p/regnumstats/wiki/setting_up_conky_script for more info).
Anyway you can download it here:
Windows: http://code.google.com/p/regnumstats/downloads/detail?name=regnumstats-install-v1.1.exe
Windows for the RA server:http://code.google.com/p/regnumstats/downloads/detail?name=regnumstats-install-v1.1-RA-SERVER.exe&can=2&q=
Linux/source code: http://code.google.com/p/regnumstats/downloads/detail?name=regnumstats-src-v1.1.tar.gz
CONKY: http://code.google.com/p/regnumstats/downloads/detail?name=conky_v1.0.tar.gz
http://code.google.com/p/regnumstats/ is the project page, in case you want to check it out, file a bug, or suggest a feature. You can also suggest features and report bugs by replying to this thread!
Enjoy! And thank you to the users of Regnumstats for all the downloads!!!

Its clean... If you don't believe me download the source and examine it. However the windows executable is a packed python script, some AVs block packed exes.
If you don't trust it, I guess thats fine, its your choice. But I guarantee you its clean.

No it's ok, it's not that I don't trust it, honestly. :)
I just don't know how to stop my anti-virus from blocking it. xD

Some screenshots would be welcome.
Anyways I would use it if I wasn't using something else already (KDE plasmoid that updates the regnum WZ stats image in desktop + Enio's IRC bot that notices me fort captures via desktop notifications ).
But awesome work !

I believe the KDE plasmoid app is actually derived from my work. Not to be conceded. Its just that someone told me they were going to make a plasmoid port of it.
Maybe send me a link of the plasmoid app?

If you're afraid then download the python interpreter and then you can run if in script form, rather than packed in an EXE. Packed scripts don't go well with AVs.
But its understood, I don't trust me either sometimes.

No, for sure, that plasmoid isn't even related to RO, it just shows and updates a distant image (URL) on your desktop ( http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Scripted+Image?content=91749 ), then I use it to show and updates this every minute : http://regnum-online.de/goodies/status9.gif , so it has nothing to do with your work.

The Regnum stats conky script has been updated to v1.1, its not more organized, you can set the default color for neutral text(anything not a realm name). I cleaned up some code and Plunder (horus ignis) contributed some changes, he modified it so that it uses dynamic spacing so forts stay aligned, and he also organized forts into lists according to the realm that they belong to.
You can download v1.1 HERE (http://code.google.com/p/regnumstats/downloads/detail?name=conky_v1.1.tar.gz&can=2&q=)
Heres a screenshot:
http://i38.tinypic.com/2l89t7d.jpg
Tell me whether you like it better or not, if you don't v1.0 is still available from the project page, here (http://code.google.com/p/regnumstats/)
Enjoy!

Ok, heres my conkyrc file, I put it in a paste bin because I didn't want to fill the thread with it. It is also a nice example of how to get the regnum script to work.
For the record, and for legal issues(yeah right lol), its gonna be under the WTFPL v2, which ironically is a real license. So do what you please, don't bother to credit me, its a small bit.

So my now Co-Author, plunder, just implemented gems in the conky script. Gems show up as "*" next to the realm name that they currently belong to and in the color of the realm it is from. Its really cool, be sure to credit plunder as well.
Right now all the new features are sadly only done for the Conky Script, meaning its only for Linux. But I'm working on porting these to the applet as well so windows users and non-conky users can also have these new features. :lightsabre:
Heres a link to Regnum Stats Conky Script 1.3. (http://code.google.com/p/regnumstats/downloads/detail?name=conky_v1.3.tar.gz&can=2&q=)
Heres a screenshot,
http://i38.tinypic.com/xfybza.jpg
So coming features to the applet are as listed
Realm danger warning
Display Gems
Organize the forts by realm
Add color
***Maybe make it look better and port it to a better GUI toolkit (Qt4 or wxWidgets)

I re-wrote the script from scratch to use Xia's JSON status API instead of the rankings page.
The status API:
http://rostatus.heroku.com/api
The new script:
http://pastebin.com/F1aZCG7p
It can probably be done a lot cleaner & in fewer lines, I just wrote this between coffee & lunch cause I wanted my conky status back :D

So now difference is: if before line was readet from page by build in script of widget...now u use a server script what export all this line in JSON format(what is almoust symilar with xml).
If there is no update now:
-Server is down;
-Xia's server cant fetch data;
-Widget dosen't connect to xia server;

The difference is mostly that the previous script was parsing HTML which now because of "Top Player" rankings is broken.
I don't like parsing HTML so instead of fixing the previous script, I re-wrote it to use 1 line of JSON that Xia's server provides, much simpler.
If the information is not available to anyone, it does not matter what you are using (HTML, JSON, whatever), it will not display valid info. You cannot create information where it does not exist :p

Good job! I first heard about this API. This method is much simpler than parsing HTML.

You can just change the word "horus" in my python script to "muspel", "niflheim" or whatever server you want, and it will work :)

Blow away dust from this thread ...
I re-write Miraculix script: http://pastebin.com/PLr4ugg7
A more compact layout and adapt the new warzone mechanics (including passive realm status).
Feel free to customize it on your own needs.

PS: Default server at this script is muspell, oops. :D
