I just killed Ancalimon Jadescribe, the leader of the Syrtis people I presume... since he's standing there with all those guards and whatnot
This means I win right? RIGHT? :bounce5425:

Nah, the Alsius leader doesn't matter to me. Besides, the emperor of Alsius got killed in the crossfire according to the original lore :P
If this game's plot line holds any value, killing this leader should dethrone the Syrtis republic. The Dark Elves and Esquelios (Moloks are Ignean natives ofc) should get to return home - this being Ignis' primary objective in war, I don't know how else to beat the game so I went out of my way to do this lol.

the fact that you got that far into their realm, then into the main city, and killed a general... yea, you win.

Nah, that is not Syrtis real leader, it is just a stand in meant to distract people like you in search of glory. The real leader of Syrtis is where all the smart players are. On initiate island of course to avoid the frustration of 1 FPS an someone with a very slow weapon hitting you 5 times for each time you can manage to hit them once cause of it. Good luck getting on the island next time to try to kill the real leader, I will be sure to be around him to video your glory killing. :imstupid:

According to the game's constantly changing, jumbled up lore, each realm has it's real government beyond the map we see in Regnum. There are other landmasses beyond the sea for Alsius and Syrtis, and Ignis' mainland is beyond the mountains we see on the main map. According to Alsius quests, they have a new dwarven emperor. The emperor you are talking about was killed around 400 years ago in the middle of the Elven War.
Those guys in the "capital cities" are only representatives of the real government beyond the map. The "real" capital cities exist beyond the map as well. But who knows if we'll ever see them, we haven't seen lore based information for years :p

This, pretty much. IIRC the noble you killed was some prefect (or was that the Alsius guy?) who leads the war effort in the inner realm. Besides, even if someone did assassinate one of the faction leaders that faction wouldn't just be crippled or destroyed.
The lore seems rather confusing, though. According to one Alsius quest, Gash Gur'rent (sp?) was the first dwarven emporer who died long ago and Garm is the new one, and in another quest, the roles are reversed.
Also, the Ignis section of the Wikipedia page for Regnum mentions a city called Korr-Tabhar, which may be the Ignean capital, although I have absolutely no idea what the official source of that is.

Yes :D
Afaik, each realm has it's own representatives. Kervyn Cairndweller for example works directly for the emperor. We are never told that Baldrik Hammerstriker works for the emperor, though he is presumed to be in control of the Alsius war effort in our world. The same case is with Ancalimon Jadescribe, he is simply leading the war effort, and his superiors are somewhere else. Daracan in Ignis reports to Priestess Rashi Nuri who is in the temple of Nakratis, Ignis' capital city Korr-Tabhar. This unofficially makes Ignis' form of government a matriarchy, since in quests Rashi Nuri is described as Ignis' highest power.
I have to thank you for mentioning Korr-Tabhar, because I completely forgot the name. It used to be mentioned in old quests, but NGD has edited quests so much that everything has changed :theking:
EDIT: The lore is extremely hard to follow, maybe because some of it is lost in translation, or because it is made up along the way. From the quality of newer quests I think it looks more like it is made up along the way. There are many quests that contradict with each other.

Baldrik Hammerstar is just the leader of Montsognir :p
Overlord of the Alsirian territory in the world of Regnum is Kervyn Cairnweller(I don't remember the exact spelling), who is situated at a different location in Montsognir.

So "Garm" is the current Alsirian Emperor...
"Rashi Nuri" is Ignis' priestess...
Who's the true leader of the Syrtian Republic, then?
I would kill that noob Daracan too if given the opportunity

See, that's the problem. Some quests mention that Syrtis is a republic, others imply it's a monarchy.
And yeah, the noble is a political leader of the city. Alsius' inner realm leader seems to be a member of the military (Kervyn Cairndweller). I can't remember if his position is elite guard or general.

Elite guard (tools say (http://tools.claninquisition.org/#/npcs))
