View Full Version : Will I be able to get to level 60 just by grinding mobs?
Scenario.
Lvl50 Conjurer.
Four damage spells in mental, mana burn, evidems fury and summons. All spells are capped at a certain amount of damage. I will need max mana pool and intelligence to ensure I have enough mana to keep casting.
Lvl51 - I increase in level, the mobs I need to kill increase in level and therefore their HP is higher, my spell set does not increase in level - level 5 is the max for any spell. I have 1 intelligence worth of mana more.
Lvl52 same and so on.
When I get to say lvl57 I will still be doing the same damage as a level 50 conjurer but needing to kill level 57 mobs now in order to get XP at any speed.
Will I be able to grind on mobs?
Group grinding is possible I suppose but won't it be much much easier for barbs, warlocks and marks who can, due to their damage multipliers grind on higher level mobs anyway?

What Marx damage multipliers? The new bows and arrows are drop only (in packs of 500), often inferior to existing level 50 bows, and as Recharged arrows is a percentage of weapon damage, their attack damage will therefor not increase except for about 1.5 points per level from Dexterity, and a minor amount from power points. Not to mention all damage spells except Lethal strike are fixed damage. All classes are in the same boat more or less. If the items were available from stores, or dropped with "good" statistics more frequently, it would be a different story.

Well I dunno, but my knight is 52 and hitting 800 crits on normal mobs now ^^
Marksmen and barbarians get more damage per point of primary attribute than other classes. So do warlocks, but suggesting it makes any difference is laughable.
I believe knights, conjus and hunters get 25% less dmg per point of primary attribute, but that may have changed.
I had the fear that my point would not be clear I was right.
Not sure its worth trying again, but I'll try - once.
At level 50 I could set up my conjo to do damage for grinding like this:
Mental 19 - Arcane Missile 5, Blaze 5, Prickly Ivy 5, Devouring Mass 5
Mana control 19 - Barrier 5, mana burn 5, Dragon blood 5, ambitious sac 1, mana pool 5
Staff mastery 19 - ligh/fire/ice magnification all 5, combat magic 2, evidem fury 5
Summon 19 - two summons to 5 or 1 summon plus demonic rage.
Now this is arguably the most damage a conjo can do - there are no more damage spells unless you count beetle warm and splinter wall.
So when I get to 51 , 52, 53, 54, 55, my damage will not increase; all of these spells are damage capped. There are no more spells to damage I can put extra power points in to.
Mob maximum health will go up though and get harder. They will hit harder and therefore get through lvl5 energy barrier quicker.
So my point was as I will have no increase in damage as I approach level 60 will a conjurer with the damage of a level 50 character be able to kill mobs?
A warlock has all of the above spells apart from the summons -in exchange it has thirteen additional damage spells to add points into. I imagine you will have issues with mana though - harder mobs will mean more mana.
EDIT: Looking at the Hunter trees they will have the same issue - no more damage spells to use.
If I understood thing correctly, the damage impact will increase by each level you reach. E.g. being level 50 you are doing 200 damage on a lvl 50 mob (with staff), being level 55 you will do the similar on a lvl 55 mob. Same applies to your Pet.
So the only class which is really disadvantaged is Warlock. Because most warlocks I've seen rely a lot on constant-damage spells.
Time will tell.
As i see it mobs got nearly same HP, but depending on challenge level they reduce more or less your damage. I grind my conju with or without party and it is fine. I even dropped summons completely and rely only to mental. With dot's you can kill even challenging or hard mobs.

Yeah I have found the same - just leveling up lvl5 fire, ice and lightening magnification and doing 250-400 normals on blue mobs.
