Important: Xmas problems!

Dear Community,

As you may know these have been some troubled days at NGD Studios
Besides any issues arising from the GUI update, we unwillingly introduced some issues within the ximerin code that allowed people to exploit the system and buy a lot of premium items without spending their ximerin.

This forced us to take drastic measures as introducing around 50 thousand USD worth of free premium items in the game could really unbalance the economy, breaking our business model in the process.

To make things worse, it’s the holiday season and most of our staff is out on vacations.

We are aware of all of the issues that the community is bringing up... so please bare with us until while we work them out.


Firstly, we want to make the game playable, so we are removing the falling damage until we find the issue causing damage when walking.
Most of the issues you guys have with the UI (resizable combat log, map zoom, HP bars, etc.) will be fixed shortly, please be patient.
If you are a premium customer we are very sorry for the inconvenience these past few days. Most of the illegally obtained items have been deleted and the ximerin restored.


To those who took advantage of the situation I’d like to tell you that you put not only Regnum’s but our company’s future in jeopardy. We can’t penalize you because this was our mistake and we have to own up to it, and because some of you have been great customers in the past.

To these users I say, you have forfeited any rights to complain about the current situation. As we have owned up to our mistake, reflect and do the same about your abuse.

Well, as I complained in another post, this update was horribly rushed and you guys have paid for it. I know you were trying to get it out, but this is the classic NGD mistake; it is time that you guys recognise that and fix it, it should never have lead to something like this. All of that money that has been lost could've been spent on a proper QA and testing team and prevented this. In my years of playing the game, I have never seen an update so terribly botched.

But I am not here to gripe at you. My frustration is because these actions result in a loss of players, of friends, of allies and enemies. It is very hard to watch the next big update come around with the same problems as before, and see my chats filled with nothing but players complaining and quitting because of the game no longer runs of their system, or they get too low of FPS, or the new GUI is too big to fit on their laptop screen, or their character keeps falling to their death every few meters.

I have been playing this game for four years and will continue to do so. I will also continue to purchase Xim when you guys do a good job and withhold any purchases when you do not. I am neither here to support NGD nor to degrade them; and I will always be either on your side or the customer's side depending on which side I believe is more correct.

I am sorry for your loss sand I hope that this can be a learning experience for all, that the future of the game really won't be in question and that it can not only recover from this but prosper under a refined development process; combined with the new engine, new forts, new UI and eventually (I hope) new cities which will spread it to newer users and eventually hold an even larger population of players than now, across the entire world.

When things are their worst, they can only go up. Take the lemons and make lemonade, or whatever you prefer.

I'm one of the forum "whiners", but i do it because i really really like RO. For me it is the game that makes me relax and blow steam after the hard work day.

I thought it was legit at first, but its been happening for a few fights, and they just keep making more and more trees. Unfortunately I think most people from all three realms already used these trees before realizing they were being mass produced by a xim dupper for a combat gain (blocking fort doors).

Good thing they only give perishable items (aside from the masks, which aren't tradeable).

Instead of doing stupid stuff like that, report issues to NGD, please! I personally love this game because it's the best mmorpg with linux client around and I guess im not the only one.

i got only Masks from XMAS trees on my 60 lvl barb and 4 +50% xp boost (which in principle do not need at 60 lvl xD).

ye! the name was Cnekmp Aka Bad Santa... I think that this name is not the only one who took advantage of this bug.

masks are not suitable to trade because, I hope, that NGD has OFF trade all premium stuff.

demand satisfaction! dishonest players should be punished, even if they acted on behalf of others players (unless of course the mask, and 50% boosts can be called BLESSING).

RO stands for Regnum Online (and Realms Online) as far as I know :P.

Anyways on topic, I'd like to say thanks to NGD for their awesome work. This new UI and update is great in general and for everyone, but like it has been said, you pushed it too fast without making deep tests and resolving the most obvious bugs.

We don't mind waiting a few more weeks or months to get a stable and working update rather than getting immediately a half-backed update. Take care of the biggest number of bugs you can, take time to test deeply every update and so on. Your problem isn't the quality of your work, but the fact that you are sometimes very unprofessional by first not announcing important updates in advance and by releasing non-completely finished and tested updates.

Anyways you can only learn from your mistakes and I hope the next times and releases will be better and successful. Don't get down because of this, you are doing a very nice job, you just need to chill and not rush.

About the broken into appartement it really sucks. I hope everything will soon get better for you Chilko. Shit happens :confused2:. Hang on!

A tip from me is: See threads posts by players that reported many times the same bug and those who suggestted some good ideas. But before implementing these ideas, check the current status of the game. When you have completed the major issues(not minor, major). Post the new update you have in mind to make on the forum and get the feedback from players. Don't rush the update.

Truly unfortunate. However, I do agree with Kitsunie and Scias. The Universe sends out subliminal messages and when we do not listen those messages get bigger. This is just another message. The message is:
Don't rush updates.
NGD has recently changed its model to a system of release and fix on the fly. I was truly fearful of this approach as it brings so much risk.
Such fears have been realized with this update. It is terrible moment and I do sympathize but the company has been flirting with trouble.
I often wonder if these rushed things are due to invisible hands making unreasonable demands on the staff at NGD.

In any case, I am one who stupidly thought (in the early stages) that this was legit as well and kept asking the player in question , and others, if they got money for Christmas. Of course nobody answered me. I had no clue of any exploits. So I clicked the trees. At Imperia I found that it was becoming ridiculous and started counting them and calculating the Xim costs. At that point I knew it was an exploit. At that point I simply left.

Of course I was a bit drunk through all this but when is stupidity not magnified by alcohol :facepalm3:. I got masks and 50% XP boosters. ON principle I will NOT be using any of these and if I can't delete them I will send a ticket in the New Year to have them removed. Other honest players realizing the error should do the same.
If NGD makes a patch allowing me to drop these items, even better. I can save them the trouble of another ticket.

On the last note . I am very sorry to hear about the break in at your apartment. Hopefully nobody was hurt and hopefully nothing of real value was stolen. Remember, life is the most precious gift, and you still have that and the lives of your family. Once you are all alive all things remain possible. Look at your family members, hug them, tell them you love them and happy they are there. The best gift of all.

Hi guys,

to those concerned about the robbery let me tell you what happened.

I have a building in construction right next to my apartment.
I left to spend Xmas with my family and left my window open.
Someone jumped from the construction to my balcony and entered my apartment and the one on the same floor on the next building.

They where looking for money. Turned my apartment up side down and as I don't have any they left with something they could carry: My PS3.

So, All in all, I was lucky.
They didn't take my 360 neither my games.
I finished Uncharted 3 last week so I won't miss any critical save games :)

We had to release this before Xmas, we had a commitment to the community, to our partners and to ourselves.

We decided to go live with some bugs, that we considered minor at the time and could be fixed a couple of weeks later.
We just thought that the GUI was such a major improvement that the update was going to be percieved as a step forward regardless.

The ximerin bug was not reported by anyone (as you don't actualy spend ximerin when buying premium items in Amun)

it is obvious that our development process is broken, we are working hard to come up with a better ways to continue developing Regnum during the course of next year.

When will you stop hiding the truth? You knew about existence of critical issues from October 2011. I was reading all these posts and the blames against me. But your words placed the end point and I want to share with others what happened in reality:


After Chilko's post (http://regnumonline.com.ar/forum/showpost.php?p=1440469&postcount=13) I've spent a lot of time for researches of how people could make duplicate items. I began my investigation and I've found how it's done and a lot more critical issues has been found too. Then I've sent you private message in RO forum. You asked me to create a private YouTube video how it has been done and I've wrote to you in such content of mind: "I've done a lot of work and used my professional skills for these bug research. I'm just a player and a customer of NGD, it's not my duty to do a work that NGD's Developers have to do. If you want to get help, my services should be paid"

You can sell us items for real money but why I should offer my services for free? I could explain and give solution for all the critical bugs that I've found and could be exploited, but after that you knew that I ask money for my skills, you pretended like a little boy with such content "I don't really understand what you say... <etc>"

Remember, bugs, available exploits and solutions for them should be in your interest the way much more than players do. You earn money from it! After that I didn't tried to reply even. Then somehow you "forgot" our conversation.

Then I began posting and creating threads with criticism at forums against NGD's Development and Management. But unfortunately all my posts and threads containing criticism has been deleted, without any explanation. (You're not respecting and taking care of your customers and what they do think about you even even?). Just FYI, I've spent around 1000-2000 euros in RO at first 6 months of my gameplay...

After some time, my forum account gets banned too (no cause was ban has been reported to me). I was NOT using non-normative words even to be banned for...

So, I've left alone with all the critical security issues that I had. My threads are deleted, my reports got ignored, my forum and game account has been banned.
I cannot post here screenshots of our private conversation with you Chilko as a proof (my forum account has been banned...).

So I've left game, just logged in sometimes to talk my mates.

After being "invisibly pressed" and ignored by your side, I tried to show you how these issues are critical (Remember Christmas trees?).

Although I've never revealed the exploit to PUBLIC and I will never do (because I DON'T WANT other players to loose Regnum Online as a game). If I did, can you imagine what it will be?

I hope that next time you'll be more serious and will listen carefully to the people who points to your security flaws that you have. And please, stop pretending yourselves as a victims in this situation.

I've lost money and my RO account and everything that I had, you've lost nothing (I didn't revealed exploit to public) and you have still enough time to fix these damn bugs in Regnum Online until someone else besides me will find them. And please don't forget to fix all the bugs that players report you already 3 years.

P.S. One player from Ignis has an Alsius main and he told me after X-Mas trees show: "Please give me Xims for less cost, I will pay you using PayPal." I refused. He told me that he'll blame me on forums if i will not reveal exploit to him. Now I see that he's doing his job good in this thread.

Then I began posting and creating threads with criticism at forums against NGD's Development and Management. But unfortunately all my posts and threads containing criticism has been deleted, without any explanation. (You're not respecting and taking care of your customers and what they do think about you even even?). Just FYI, I've spent around 1000-2000 euros in RO at first 6 months of my gameplay...

After some time, my forum account gets banned too (no cause was ban has been reported to me). I was NOT using non-normative words even to be banned for...

So, I've left alone with all the critical security issues that I had. My threads are deleted, my reports got ignored, my forum and game account has been banned.
I cannot post here screenshots of our private conversation with you Chilko as a proof (my forum account has been banned...).

So I've left game, just logged in sometimes to talk my mates.

After being "invisibly pressed" and ignored by your side, I tried to show you how these issues are critical (Remember Christmas trees?).

Although I've never revealed the exploit to PUBLIC and I will never do (because I DON'T WANT other players to loose Regnum Online as a game). If I did, can you imagine what it will be?

I hope that next time you'll be more serious and will listen carefully to the people who points to your security flaws that you have. And please, stop pretending yourselves as a victims in this situation.

I've lost money and my RO account and everything that I had, you've lost nothing (I didn't revealed exploit to public) and you have still enough time to fix these damn bugs in Regnum Online until someone else besides me will find them. And please don't forget to fix all the bugs that players report you already 3 years.

P.S. One player from Ignis has an Alsius main and he told me after X-Mas trees show: "Please give me Xims for less cost, I will pay you using PayPal." I refused. He told me that he'll blame me on forums if i will not reveal exploit to him. Now I see that he's doing his job good in this thread.

I told NGD about critical bugs and exploits...

I also went and made it obvious to all that it was possible but did not say how...

I was banned for climbing walls (the only thing I should have possibly been banned for, it was a test on the real server to see if the issue I told ngd about a year ago was fixed... and it was not. So I ran around and people took screen shots of me = banned)

Second time I was banned for not having a clan name (I didnt know this was bannable, and to me .. on my screen no one had clan names.)

Then I was told by admins, "one more thing and you are banned forever"
(yes they didn't care that I didn't know not having a clan name was wrong and they refused to remove the strike against me - I even gave them pictures as proof of my story showing everyone ignis realm without clan names)

Imagine how I feel. I like you spent tons of time trying to make this game awesome. I personally made thousands of copies of the game and thousands of documents and told thousands of people to play this game. Battle Angel Alita is proof of this. I met Battle Angel Alita "Terry" when I was with my sister helping her to find an apartment. Terry was in charge of the office there. We spoke as we walked around looking at houses, and I left him with a slip of paper saying. www.regnumonlinegame.com ignis server - demonmonger.

We can do our best to bring people to this game, and our best to warn about potential problems; in the end it is us who looks like the bad guy and us who gets banned. The people of regnum can't even begin to understand how we feel about this game. If we didn't care we wouldnt be here. The purpose is not to destroy the game, but to make it the best game online.

The thing that bothered me most was the inventing of a balance team with players that didnt even know what all the skills in game did....

I remember the days when devs would speak to us in person to get problems fixed. Megrim Niclam did... I remember the days when an exploit was reported and the admins would log in beside you to watch how it was done and thank you for your support.

Good to see there are still people like Спектр. He made great show, but only few ppl understood it. If he would destroy game like aggresive hacker he would give away items from boxes and kill ingame market. NGD fixed nothing only tuninged more unstable game. In płace of minor bugs we have MAJOR ones.

Horse teleport back bug, herbred and much more transparent walls, savior on dead people.
Crappy hp bars which made me leave support conjurer, Ignis Great wall can be used to carry out gems, you can kill yourself if you start casting Sacrifice and get less than 450hp before you end.
If you get dots on you and teleport you die, if you are under water and click boats teleport you die.
Magnanites duplications still not fixed ( blocked trade ).

And many more.

Hackers and ppl who want to help need motivation. Nobody will lose time to work for free and give his boss money profits.

They still lost a lot of money. There were mass amounts of boosts and horses introduced into the game because of the trees. IMO, NGD should first patch the glitch, and then ban cnekmp so when he gets butthurt again, there's nothing for him to try and mess up.

I'm discouraged every game update, the lack of NGD professionalism, to use the main server as alpha release (ngd has a checklist before update?), introducing many new bugs, not fixed old bugs, trying to improve one or two things and worse 5 or 6 things that were good...

I see total lack of quality, bugs happens, nobody's perfect, but I as a consumer, I see the lack of preparation by the person who leads the way things go in the NGD...

I'm sad, cause RO is a really good "product", and by the way, I presume the CEO doesn't see the real potential of the RO...

IDK how complex is the RO source code, but one thing is clear, the problems add up with the current stance...

NGD know that Horus is like a ghost server today, the factor isn't the new servers, is the low quality, players tired of seeing this attitude, thinking whether should be or not spend money in the RO...

Open mind, lots of good players, they know what they say, use what they say for the benefit of the game. I could mention many names of players impartial in their analysis, just thinking in a better game to play. for eg: beacons, offensive beacon broke the game, and other things are not reviewed before new updates. Bonus exp is not the way, the way is fix the bugs to keep your customers, be honest...

I hope that the NGD see this post and take constructive criticism, and really think "what we're doing wrong", and I hope it becomes playable again... I'm sure it ngd didn't follow the 'slow science way' before implementing the WM expansion...

Authentication to server is made by MD5 hash which is easy to crack using modern crackers(hashkill and others) and GPU's.

There is no ideal software and every devel makes mistakes no matter how good he is. There are many factors - deadlines, stress, IRL issues... If you like the product you can be grateful by helping devels with finding in fixing critical issues.

For the sake of the game which I have spent years with (though not so much recently) an still love to play given the time. I hope what was done can be safely undone without too much harm to the companies employee's. Some of us seem to forget that while this game might be your guys dream but it is not your life. For it to be destroyed through people trying to cheat or prove a point or whatever they want to call it would not only take away a stress release and enjoyment for us players but would put you guys an your families in jeapordy.

I am also glad to hear you will be rethinking how you work your updates. For the past year or so it seems many things have been rushed. Probably do to multiple reasons, whiners constantly on forum/PMs/ticket system saying you need this or that done, outside influences from Gamgio/gamesamba, and even a want on your end to try to keep the game up to par with competition. Try to find some time to put some serious look into many of the major and minor bug issues there are an get them fixed before pushing forward with content.

An please don't let this horrible set of circumstances let it take this game away from us. Personally, I still have the fear that cause of all this and your current success with other projects that RO might just up an vanish after your current contracts/agreements with Gamigo and Gamesamba end. This would be a true shame if it ever did happen.

Most of us do understand that due to the size and lack of funding compared to most of the other major game producing studios things will not be able to change over-night. In terms of manpower hours alone I am sure other studios can prolly in a day put in the collective amount of man power hours it takes you guys weeks to put into this game. So try to find a happy medium to use your time more wisely. For now IMO most focus should go to bug fixing, something that has been done only in the backround for too long while other content was brought along. Hopefully your outside influences will agree to this and give you the time needed to correct many things that need corrected and an update can come that is just fixes to issues that will show the community in plain sight you are trying. No new added prem even if it is ready, no new eye candy even if it is ready...ect. I think most of the player base would appreciate an update as such more then anything. Not the current type updates where it seems the focus of the update lies only in new content an the fixes that are done are barely spotlighted.

Any linux user have network security tools that alow you to capture /edit/forward packages.

Encrypting them and using a HTTPS service will slow a bit your server but at least by far secure.(not perfect but better)

I don't know in Argentina but in Europe wee are daily under siege all time.

Europe use massive Linux and love to play with exploits .

I feel almost sorry for NGD at this point. While I understand you (NGD) were under pressure from your partners (let's be honest, community provided no pressure, I'm certain 99% of us are happy to wait for a polished update), surely even your partners would prefer polish over buggy release? One thing that frustrates me is bugs being released on top of existing bugs, and I hope that older bugs will get some attention in the coming months. Other than this, I still enjoy the game and look forward to (most) updates, and don't worry, any bugs I find are reported free of charge.

Hi all, haven't been on the game since I'm visiting the in-laws for xmas.

NGD, sorry to see this kind of thing. But I'm probably not as sorry as you who have to deal with the fallout or aftermath, and deal with cleaning it all up.

I hope you're able to sort everything out and strengthen your operating procedures and come out ahead in the long run.

I think we all want to see RO improve, and we want to see the updates improve. For that to happen, we need to have a good working relationship between the devs and the community who report problems. I think communication is key here.

To the community: While RO is not open source, I think it would not hurt to adopt (or further adopt?) the open source philosophy, and help each other and the devs by reporting bugs and other potential problems to NGD, and really make use of all the resources available to us. (namely the forums, Frosk, PMing, e-mails if we have them, bug-reporting tools, etc. etc.) Mention it in multiple places so we can ensure the devs get the info they need.

I know a lot of us do that already, but I think if more people joined together, we could have a finer net to catch these problems as they come up, and also strengthen the community itself by working together. Also, let's get more people involved in testing when updates appear on amun, and increase both the quality and quantity of feedback. You know, really run these updates through their paces when they arrive. Leave no change unexplored. :)

We also have a nice shiney new community manager who is doing a very good job here. So, if we have concerns and observations of problems or potential problems, why not use that resource alongside the forums and other tools? :) Just, let's try to keep the aggression and flack to a minimum. ^_^

I have always been peeved to suddenly try and move character and find myself stuck on the spot - only because text entry has somehow inadvertently been activated. Cause of many deaths.... New GUI makes this harder to detect. And text box suddenly disappears - have to click minus to close & reopen to enter text on other occasions. So behaves really awkwardly.

On RO mainpage there is still announce that ximerin promotion is available. But when you click it and try to buy some, there actually is not promotions.
maybe you just forgot to remove that pic? :P
