I would go full damage with all the spells you usually use while hunting. Go petless, specialist lvl 5 para 5 maneuvre 5. Also, caltrops 5 and conf 5 camo 5 so you can conf conju's from behind and camo. Also, go camoed and wait behind the enemy group and kill the low HPers with CB 5 + Ensnaring. It doesn't get much more then this for a hunter in war.

I meant a setup on inquistiton trainer :P
Not a full setup but some advices for (fort) wars.
First, with beacons all around, knocks and stun aren't that useful.
Second, a hunter does very little damages especially at level 48, also pet is useless at war (it will be killed in seconds).
So skill areas:
- caltrops (long cd, but efficient, will be mass dispelled asap and often)
- hinder (shorter cd, not very efficient, but less often dispelled)
- repetition shot (enemies at door ie, when they are wounded, you'll prolly die in the process)
Skill Confuse:
- everytime you can use it, top priority : healers
Skill Sudden Strike:
- help your warriors, especially on knights
Skill Stalker Surroundings:
- you can attempt some surprise attacks with few allies (drawback: very long cooldown, beware enemy's hunters)
Skill Long bows + Parabolic Shot:
- as low level you have low armor and low health, stay out of range of most attacks, but anyways if you don't care enough, enemy's marksmen will kill you very fast
Skill Evasion tree powers:
- you need a lot of defense, Low Profile will save your life many times (but not always)
Enjoy hunter OPness at war XD

What makes you think a hunter should be able to participate in fort wars?

Hunters are perfectly able to participate fort wars. Current state of the class make them a bit underpowered in such situations, but they clearly have their place at fort wars.

Id use a setup like this i guess:

You can skip the rapid shot if you want (since you prefer lb) and give that point to something else. (id give it to retaliation xD)
Try it! ;)

Which one? The "I'm like a marksman that doesn't use marksman specific trees for teh lulz" place or the "I've got higher normals than a support conjurer" ability? Do you mean the "I can sometimes cast confuse if I survive long enough and serve as a tracking slave apart from that" role? Or the "I can annoy everyone with my solo capturing up to 2 hours after the battle" tactics?

Apart trolling, i don't see your point. Every class could be described as you do.

No, every class has something other classes can't do better. Knights, barbarians, especially marksmen, conjurers, too, obviously, and warlocks (although they've already been better they're still a class). Is there anything hunters can do better than other classes? With solo fort captures and tracking slaves I think I've listed the most important points.

I don't think Seher's really trolling. He's using sarcasm to point out the problem with hunters in war. I.E. They're not really an optimal class for fort wars --As they are right now-- or full on RvR. They don't have a well defined role, which is what we've all been b-ching about and trying to get improved for a very long time.
Hunters are kinda like the bards from DnD. Jack of all, master of none. Pets are useless in war, yeah, you can skin of the beast on them, but it's high mana cost and a barb and the other buddies around him are still gonna rape it. Plus it makes it harder for your own team to click on their targets since the pet gets in the way.
I don't like Stalker, and I don't skill it. It's uses are situational at best, and it can be a bit hit/miss. So, I skip it, and put the points into areas like Hinder/Caltrops/Rep Shot, depending on which setup I want to run with at the time.
I always try to have at least 2 or 3 areas. If shortbow, caltrops/hinder/rep-shot. If longbow, Caltrops and Projectile rain, possibly hinder if I have enough points to put shortbows up that high. (I'm only lvl 53 tho) Always have confuse at least at 2. I tend to put tracking at 3. 250m range is plenty of warning time, and anything further can be a little buggy. I was recently tracking things inside of 250m, that a fellow hunter with track 5 was missing.
I also always have a DoT. I tend to favor break apart for war, but Tear apart can be a good thing vs. knights, and having both (swapping bows) can be a decent tactic as well. Just beware archers with retaliate. Having your own DoT flung back at you can hurt. (I always try to have retaliate at 4 if not 5)
I try to keep evasive tactics at 4 or 5 if I have the points. I usually leave acrobatics at 3. SotW if you have points for it is a must, but if you can be subtle and not make yourself a target, you shouldn't have to fire it off too often.
And yeah, unlike many hunters who ignore their passives, I try to put points into my passives in a balance way. I try to have sentinel at 4 or 5, omnipresent at 4, specialist at 4 or 5, and light footed at least 4. Not so much for the damage, since it's only about 16-ish dex, which is only 16 points of damage which apparently (according to Kitsunie) are not factored into the skills damage equations. But I try to have a good concentration and a decent % crit chance. I've got about 19 to 20% crit chance, and I usually hit a good string of crits every few mobs. mostly grinding these days, want to someday possibly hit 60 :P
I totally ignore pets these days. I don't even use them to grind since I can kill the lower yellow mobs before they get to me, or maybe take 1 hit as they die. :P I used pets up to about lvl 50, and then I stopped completely since there were better ways to use the points IMO.
Anyway, that's generally how I role. Sometimes I'll be heavy on support, sometimes I'll try to squeeze as much damage potential as I can (Seher's "mini-marks but without the marks") A lot of times, I'll try to balance the two as much as a hunter can anyway. :P
Anyway, that's how I roll.
Edit: oh, and hunters...well....we're squishy. Try not to make yourself a target, and try to be subtle in your warring. :)

Oh, quick post-script to the mess I wrote above; I don't really consider myself a "good" hunter. I mean, I certainly haven't made a name for myself. I don't have any arch-enemies in the other realms or anything. Unless I do, and I just don't know about it. :P So whatever I wrote can be taken with a grain of salt. I'm just describing the way I tend to set up, nothing super specific, but just the general idea, and what I try to aim for. If something doesn't work, then I go back, rethink, and try to improve my tactics, and tweak the setup some more.
