Hey guys,

There is a new client you can choose in options before you start the game.

Please try it and post your findings here.:lighten:

Background info of my old setup:
Since the server merges i had abruptly experienced 30+ crashs per day. (I guess i did not realize the higher graphic req in the last 2 years despite updates by reason that simultaneously the number of players declined on most servers.)
Thats why i downgraded from shader4 to fixed pipeline with an improvement in stability and nearly no crashs henceforward.

I'm testing the experimental client since 3 days now:
My previous evaluation is very positive. I have just some crashes although i'm back to shader4 with a little less settings than before. Fort fights are playable again. The only drawback is i still crash at char switch extremely often.

what we have to test? only performance? crash? some bug? network? or all?

ps: i just check it today.

Heya,

The experimental client is only for testing crash & performance fixes.

Heya,

Thanks! I am going to be using this client only. :bounce:

New client doesn't seem to affect my crash issues that much (still crashing as often as before), but I've noticed improved FPS in bigger fights than I had before :o :thumb:

First impressions:

Didn't notice any big changes
lower fps(around 12-15)
ping remained the same
no crashes( I don't crash that often on shader 2.0)

Me Third... I only don't crash on OpenGL. Lowered FPS in Direct3D

After using it for a couple of days I find that I crash less, but there's much more position bug than before I used it (shader 4.0). And no changes in ping and fps.

Yup I confirm. It pops 2 at once. Then I close one, it opens new. Then I close that new, and new opens. Then I close it again, and then it stops popping new ones.

If user A uses normal client and user B uses Experimental client, and they trade, trade window gets stuck. You can click on Accept as much as you want, nothing will change. Also you cannot close trade window.

Alright, so user with normal client relogs to loose this window. The one with experimental client STILL has trade window open after user with normal client logged off, and cannot close. The only solution: relog.

Seriously, we could really use some more info about that "new experimental client". Should we test, what to test, where to report problems, whats the idea, purpose or whatever. I wouldnt even know for its existence if DMC didnt post. Was a purpose of this just to slide in hidden test client without announce, because if you really wanted someone to test it, you would have announced it, right?

Actually, they did announce what this experimental client was for in another thread. It was introduced by surak to try and iron out a bug causing segmentation faults which linux users were expieriencing.

Quote from him:
I'd like you all to help me tracking this bug on the alternate client (see the last checkbox in the advanced options window)

Original thread here (http://www.regnumonline.com.ar/forum/showthread.php?t=89680)

I'm not sure what this new client is supposed to do but I'm crashing just as much on it than I do on the default client.

I tried it once and somehow it managed to freeze my entire system. Couldn't do anything besides hard-reboot.

Thanks Awrath,

I punted my linux machine 2 years ago. Has the problem been fixed, from reading the thread looks like NGD kicked some butt and nailed it down for you linux users?

I read in http://www.regnumonlinegame.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1597294#post1597294that
they are also working on

" engine enhancement that involves graphic renders optimization and overall performance issues fixing."

I would like to hear more about these specifics and what to expect.

Tried this client and have crashed twice with it, first time think it was my network hanging caused it (error window popped up almost immediately, much better than the game just hanging), second time for no obvious reason about 20sec after respawning at save while running to oc (alsius). Back on normal client atm but can try experimental some more if NGD want the reports.
