fyi: setting custom video options still dont work. this new fov is definately too much, as you can see way too far behind you. 50 would be a better fov for 4:3, 45 should be fine for wide screen.
edit: oh, and what happened to thorkul? or do I just have to wait a month again before I get a chance to kill him?
Hello guys,
On DirectX
When i turn on any "Post process" options in the video tab i cant see any Players/mobs names and my button "V" for showing names doesnt work too.
Opengl seem fine

It's fixed, I just didn't write it in the changelog and now I added it. Thanks!!!

Hi!
We've selected those fov values depending on the general feedback we gathered from the community.
We're deeply sorry if you dislike it.
On Thorkul, its respawn rate is far more inferior than one month. You might want to check with your realm mates on this!

Have you tried relogging?
Thanks to you for your feedback!
On Mac pro finally works client and all at maxed ,tnx a lots.
But on my old macbook can't play under shader because because of drawing armors bug.(see creen attached)
Wtv this is not my issue.I play on force safe mode because i have more fps and no more drawing bug.
But on both clients even on macbook or mac pro gamma adjustments has no effects under forced safe mode...and i see almost nothing..this is normal for forced save mode?
Note : on normal and not forced safe mode gamma works.

some of us were happy with just 45... can't it be made choosable? :C how come the people who played with 45 have to suffer cause of the people who hacked the cfg file to use 100 ?
if they complaint and get higher fov, if i complaint will you guys make it choosable between 45 and the current one? im not the only one who feels this way
i not also have to get used to a higher fov after playing with the normal game fov, but i have to live with less 10 fps because of it :P and i play in linux...

Still can't access the normal anti-aliasing slider and FXAA still has the effect of appearing as if I'm drunk - the added fov merely compounds the problem.
Also, the issue regarding certain players not being able to utilize the texture quality slider, despite being able - in certain cases - to put everything else on ultra has not been fixed.

real life tends to get in the way, so no thorkul during working hours, at night or when I have other things to do. Custom video settings still dont work, just the presets. I can play on standard high quality settings just fine, but if I change the water quality to lowest in the advanced screen, the game won't start. same for other custom settings.

New FOV seems fine enough, maybe a little too much (I'm using 1920x1080 resolution).
With lower value I agree with some that posted on forum, it adds more game sensations because of the close view that make you easy surprised from incoming enemy on sides.

you're missing the point. The point is that the increased field of view makes it too easy to look behind you, which kills skills. No longer keeping track of who is where in your head is no longer a required skill, you can see everyone in a 360 degree view. combat is dumbed down.
Nothing is dumbed down. You can zoom in to make things like before to you and provide hard mode to self. Game got better for me or at least more customizable for everyone depending on their needs.
I'm really happy that NGD increased the fov. Before was alot harder to keep a track on allies and enemies with conju.

This is exactly what I meant with dumbed down combat. You no longer need the skill to keep track of people, since you can see everything around you. You may not agree that it dumbed down combat, but we're agreeing on the fact that this makes it easy to keep track of people. IMO it's too easy.
I played with 75 fov. For conju is vital to keep track of enemies and allies to be effective and react in time. I really do not agree with the dumbed down definition.
This was just needed to suit needs of all players after disabling the config file setting.
Again mouse wheel can return things easy to previous zoom level. :D

The difficulty in a game should NEVER come from dealing with its mechanics and controls. That’s just frustrating. When NGD decides to fix the hitboxes so that you don’t have to click 10 times to select a player, you’ll complain about it being too easy as well, I suppose?

main frustration with the game is mechanics and controls though. the inability to play with the keyboard (how do you target anything without a mouse? you cant). Custom video settings not working after last graphics update (although it did increase fps) is mechanics.
after the fov increase we learned that whining works, so let's whine more about the increased fov. it's too much!

Game mechanics and controls are not a thing I have problem with. In fact, increased fov value allows you to select your targets better. Video settings do not effect the gamepley (note, I'm not talking about fps).
Increased fov value is fine as it is now, I think most players do agree with that. The fact that such an uproar was caused by the update nerfing it is a proof that there were many players editing the config file value (note, this is not hacking).
Again, If you don't like the zoom, just don't zoom out. Players who do like increased zoom will do. Everyone's best off with what they like.

video settings determine if I can see water, terrain view distance, and other stuff that has a huge effect on gameplay. As for the old editing the config file: it may be hacking, but it's not cheating.
you're still missing the point on the field of view though. a larger field of view decreases the need to keep track of what's going on outside your field of view, so it makes the game more like a RTS with a godlike perspective where you can see everything that's going on around you. It decreases the need to use your brain for that, hence 'dumbed down combat'. At least it still doesnt show enemies and allies (except group members) in the minimap, but that'll probably be the next step.
_Kharbon_
08-15-2012, 01:07 PM
I don't see if it makes much importance in seeing water or not. Terrain view distance does not show enemies from further away... what other graphics settings effect gameplay? The only gameplay setting that does give an advantage is weapon trails - showing you where you're attacked from and how much.
I don't consider skill in game by memorizing where enemy is, but rather by choice of spells, timing and correct and swift decisions reflecting the present situation. Regardless if you see or not what's going out of your view field, sometimes it's just too late to do anything, other times it just means you have to turn around more (mouse control skills, that shouldn't be an important part of gameplay imho, as it's too hardware dependant).

Hi!
Custom settings are not "selectable". That's because there isn't one unique Custom setting that can be created.
The Custom setting on the Video Quality slider shows up everytime you customize any preset option by modifying anything on the Advanced options menu!

On a sidenote, the texture quality slider is preset according to the user's video card memory available. If with a nVidia gtx570 you're not being able to max out texture quality, then I guess there might be something wrong that we need to check out.
Regards!

We're glad that the fov change produced a general positive feedback on both communities. The fps drop some users had was expected, but we're confident on thinking that this was a good move to improve gameplay, specially for those playing in lower resolutions (800x600 and such).
Best,

I am getting terrible lag spikes and connection losses since yesterdays update which make going to war pointless.
The server and gameplay ping averages both escalate up to 2300 for around 5-10 seconds before they settle again unless I lose connection with the server which I am doing at least once every 10 minutes or so.
Evrything was running very smoothly until this upadate when my Inet ping was around 72, Server ping around 140 and Gameplay ping around 91.
I have tried both openGL and DirectX, I have also set my graphics settings much lower than they were before this update - I still lag and lose connection :(
My drivers are up to date.
I send crash reports when I get the option to but often I lose connection with the server and I have no option to send a report in on re-log.

true, but this does not describe the problem. standard video settings are fine. However, if I go the the advanced options and check/uncheck an option or move a slider it somehow prevents the game from starting. The main video settings slider is set to custom as intended, after changing options in the advanced menu (I'm not trying to drag the main video settings slider to custom). The only thing I can do after changing custom settings is log in again in safemode, set the video-slider to high (or lower), and after restarting the game in normal (not safe) mode I get back the standard high quality settings.
I've heard of at least one other person who has this problem.
Not seeing the water can be a little annoying when grinding on a beach, it's all too easy to stumble into the invisible sea and drown in the invisible water ;)

I agree with roonwick that higher fov makes game easier unnecessarily (I played all of my classes just fine with 45 fov). But I don't particularly care, since everyone has been modifying it for a long time already anyways. And it does need to be different based on screen size, so that was a good adjustment.

Its good that fov was raised at last, game is acceptable again (tho it could be still higher :D).
But why do we have to change vg_screen_width and height every time before we enter the game?? Cant they be saved maybe?
Id like to have buff icons close to my hp/mana and i have to adjust it in the game cfg all time, not to mention that sometimes in the game options "full screen" gets selected automatically as well.....
Or changing things such as screen width and height will also be "fixed"(so we cant change em o.0)?
I hope not :dumbofme:.

I rather have skillful camera interaction then being forced to play with airplane view to compete.
Now its not only people with special needs that will have it, it going to be the majority of players.
Im very disappointed, yet glad that im not using my warrior characters much anymore.
Hate to see how quickly NGD give in to whiners these days, i though you wouldnt this time. xD

I am not the one experiencing issues with the texture slider, I was speaking on behalf of a few friends and others who are also unable to access this slider.
I could post a screenshot of what FXAA looks like but I think that what I am seeing is the intended effect but it just does not look right and I suggest revising the intensity.
The slider I am unable to access however is the normal anti-aliasing. Seeing as I can't stand FXAA, it would be nice to have an alternative instead of simply going with no anti-aliasing leaving objects sharp enough to shave with.

I don't think I'm able to risk it out and say for myself what could've happened there; but tell your friend we'll look this up.
Thanks for the report!

Thought I'd demonstrate here and now that the lighting effects are still painful not to mention ridiculous.

Note: There is no visible difference between with and without bloom in either situation (tested).
Seems MAC os x client returns to first beta stages at performances.
If there are more than 5 people my commands just freeze and i have 1 frame at 3-5 seconds....
This is happens even on force safe mode, and there again not having anymore smooth rotate camera.Even Alt+i says 140 fps ,my rotate camer just flickr ....
and commands not respond and keep rotating my char....

I switched from Ubuntu 12.04 x64 to Arch Linux x64, but the problem with missing Very High Render Quality is still there.
I installed nvidia blob 304.37 on Arch.
When I manually set the Render Quality to the highest value (via game.cfg, diffed it with the game.cfg of windows client) the client notifies me that "libs/libglslang.so" can not been found and it disables all shaders. Where I get this library file (it works before the graphics update)?
Is the very high render quality still under development at Linux Regnum client?
