Character Deletion

Hello,

This problem occured very recently with me. I had an account with Alsius characters on it (Im a native Syrtian) so I wanted to delete the characters, of course this would take 15 days. Which is, in my opinion, far too long. I would like to hear your opinions about it.

I suggest:

- 3 Days duration to delete your character with an email notification

OR

- No duration (instant) but with confirmation by email.

I don't think 15 days is such a long time.. you can actualy change your mind in two weeks..
I do understand however, that if you want to start in new realm, it can be a pain. Why shouldn't it be possible to start new char in another realm when the character deletion is on? Ofcourse the character can be reactivated only if the other realm one is in process of deletion...

Email confirmation is not a good option imho, as many people don't use their actual emails or just don't check them.

I'm with OP idea, imo 15 days is too long
I'd like a feature that you can delete a character from RO website with your account ofc, with waiting time

Incomplete poll,instant delete char it was fine too.
If ever i want to switch realms ,balance reasons or even personal ,will discorage me to leave a X realm because of 30 days waiting to switching .
This also will be not in advantage of NGD because i can buy scrolls boost for my new chars...wtv..personal choose ...

I think the 15 day waiting time is fine, the period off time is a nice buffer if you
get your account stolen and keeps your character safe from deletion for a while.

But i admit that it can be frustrating for players when they are eager to play and
needs to delete a char for whatever reason.

Adding an extra feature with a security code to instantly delete character would
be nice, that way if you get your account stolen your char is safe and you can
choose to instantly delete your own chars whit the aid off a security code.

I voted No: a two week cooling off period is fine, however, I do agree with Beardo that there should be a way to override it.

It is a good idea, but if there is a risk of glitching that system or somehow manipulating it, then it shouldn't be implemented - NGD shouldn't allow a hole in account defense (even if it is nearly impossible to use) to muck up accounts. The two weeks is fine. If you do want to join another realm, then I can understand how that can be frustrating, but existing accounts and characters should definitely be first priority.

Tjan what the best part is you wont reach anything with this. Do you realy think that ngd will do this in these 15days for you? :D

Stop switching realms/spying, problem solved. And if you just want to make another character, use expansion item.

While this is partially NGD's fault for merging accounts, the delay was put there to prevent the frequent database digging they had to do when everyone and their brother deleted their characters either in a fit of rage, or to switch realms (often in a fit of rage), and then came crying to Kailer or Surak.

I don't mean to sound rude in this post, but Haven has been merged for a long time now, and the extra characters are only just now becoming a problem...?

This feature could be improved.
First you click delete, it says your character will be deleted in 15 days. If you wan't to make it deleted instantly, you click delete again. This time new input box appears, telling you the delete will be permanent and character will be lost if you continue, asking you to type into input box word "DELETE" to confirm the character permanent removal.
This is not something that you can do by accident, it forces you to read the text and then you should know what you are doing.

This really is needed in my opinion, I remember when I was newbie, if you deleted your character it was deleted instantly allowing you to choose realm again. I checked how syrtis looked like, deleted character, created alsius character, deleted and ended up joining to syrtis.

The waiting period is ther not only to stop you from accidentaly deleting your own characters, but also to stop someone deleting your characters in case he hacks the account or you shared your password. You are likely to log in once in 14 days and realize "oh, someone wanted to delete my characters, I better change my password and never share it again".

This actualy happened to a friend of mine, and he would have lost lots of worthy gear if the time period wasn't there. This way, he just restored the characters and changed his password. This is, why I'm against any instant deletion of characters.

Maybe it would be sufficient to be able to shorten the deletion period to 7 days, if deletion is confirmed by email (you get email with code, insert it in the character selection screen [when a character deletion is in progress] and 7 days are taken off the remaining time)

Kharbon's right. It's a defense against account hacking. Perhaps if the concern is to check out which realm suits you better, an instantaneous change for <lvl 10s could be done. But once you're above that level, wait for the 15 days. No one really likes spies.

The lvl10 limit sounds good, I see this suggestion is growing by each post :)

Though, usually if your account gets hacked you contact NGD, or gamesamba depending on your account. I remember I had friend who used to ragequit a lot and deleted his characters every time, few months later sent email to NGD and asked them to recover his characters and NGD did that. What I am trying to say is that technically it can be possible, only problem is that how much NGD is willing help.
Not saying they should every time recover someones characters when someone ragequit, but on cases like account gets hacked they could do that. I mean usually if your account gets hacked, someone also steal your items and at this point I would contact support anyway with little hope getting them back.

Another idea regarding this what comes to my mind is secondary password. Some games uses those, some people think it is good and some hate it. I don't have opinion, but just leaving it here anyway

You probably don't know, but I played Alsius in the very beginning, after that I switched to Syrtis but my little brother (this is my little brother's account) still played Alsius. This account also hasn't been used for 2 + years so there's no need to accuse anyone of "switching Realms or Spying". The "Delete Character" is put there with the idea people could use them if they didn't need a character anymore, not to say: Want a new character? Buy Ximerin to get a new one. Makes no sense. Both of these characters are underneath the level 10 - limit, if you are mad on someone and try to make him ragequit, do you think it will help if you delete his lvl 4 and lvl 10 char?

In my case I want this account to switch from Alsius to Syrtis, characters underneath level 10, didn't play it for 2 years (no spying involved).

Then why do I have to wait 15 days to be able to change from Realm to make some new characters? Sure it is absolutely more safe to just give the character deletion a duration of 15 days. But I think there should be other ways to do so.

This might work:

- Standard Character deletion : 3 days (lvl 1 - 15), 5 days (lvl 16-25) 15 days (lvl 26+)

- When character gets deleted : Email notification (might as well be able to set a referal email -> Not the account mail but the mail where notifications go to)

- Special Character Deletion : Email notification to the account email adress with an option to delete the character instantly / secondary password (as Eyfura stated)

I think this might work.

@Time: Suppose you're walking on the same street everyday but you have to cross another street to get to your destionation. But you have to wait a very long time because cars are driving very fast and there are lots of them. But then you think : "Im not going to warn the local authorities people can't cross here because they won't fix it this month anyways" --> You'll have this problem your whole life, while it won't take too long to notify the local authorities so they can solve the problem in lets say a month or two, so you'll never have to wait this long again after these 1 or two months. --> Benefit the next times you try to cross.
