Yes we do actually communicate by phone, email, and other ways.

What? You just said we had 40+, but then said we had like 25-28... If 25 -28 people can hold off 70, like you said you had... I must say... we are just badasses.

Not to brag or anything, but Ignis has always been the best at defending.

WTF 0.o HELL NO. Then anyone could make a lvl 50 during invasions. Just roll a character and bam insta-lvl 50 then wait till the next invasion... then everyon has a bunch of lvl 1s that they use and all of a sudden epople can play all 6 class... thats riduculose, can you imagin getting sultared 50 times... or frozen to death, or typooned, or fire balled, or twistered, or def roared and all that. That would be a really bad move

The main point of this topic was completely missed. I didn't want the thread to turn into a topic about how useful guards are or their potential if NGD implements different things (or how effective Ignis is in war. I even congratulate them for they're nice invasion). I made this thread because I was curious about the spawning of guards and if someone was aware of the formula. As far as I'm concerned, whatever formula is in place needs to be modified.

From what I understand about gate guards, and what Ive always kept in mind when invading or when being invaded.
When Syrtis is invaded, say they have one boss guard. That means in the whole realm, people grinding, people hunting, people on alts w.e. it means Syrtis has maybe 10 less then the invading team.

The boss guards are supposed to help underpopulated realms fight back. Some say they do it poorly, but I doubt they are supposed to be super bosses and stop the entire army. When I read replies like these: U ONLI INFATE AT NITE!!!1!!!
It makes me sad, because people forget to look at themselves before others. I have invaded at night in my time zone. Syrtis has had either one or no boss guard. So before blaming the other realm. Look at your realm mates who didn't show up.

Yes, sometimes it could be simply people not showing up at the gate why there aren't extra guards. An we as far as I know are not just talking syrtis here, though the other nights invasion was used for example it is not the only example for all realms of a time where it is obvious there should be at least some extra help but there isn't. All the OP wanted was an explanation into how exactly NGD figures these things out, seeing as there have always been many ideas floated around better never even a hint (to my knowledge) of whether any of them are close to truth or not.

This to me is a completely different topic then this thread is intended for but I will make a comment. I agree with you, extra guards should not win or lose a battle, but they also need to be helpfull for the defenders. There current dyanimics do not even allow them to serve this purpose for the simple fact if you have 15 little extra guards and 3 extra guard captains it means you are extremely outnumbered. For how they are positioned to actually try to fight with them means suicide since the AI is complete crap they can't really help an it forces you to fight 50m from gate in the heart of the invaders since this is where they can easily kill them. Simple solution, move the guards closer to the gate or in middle of gates. They still will be easy kills as there AI sucks, but at least then the defenders could attempt to tactically use them to there advantage instead of simply suiciding stupidly to fight with them or watching them die from the wall without accomplishing anything what so ever.

Note: I was using Syrtis as an example because typing. "X realm, X this, X that." Would have been annoying. I agree, my way may not be right, but its what Ive learned from other players from RA and Horus too.

Another note: Guards are easy to fight with, always have been. What Ive noticed is ALL realms sit inside and let the opposing team kill them, regroup, then attack the gate. Everyone yells to stay inside. Well, then what? The guards who graciously spawned to help you are now dead and the enemy is knocking on the door.
Has no one ever fought with the boss guard at a fort? Its the same concept. You could probably thin out the opposing force, using said guards instead of using them as meat shields and deeming them "useless"
Yes you might die. But bloody hell its a war game, respawn and come back. Maybe you will, like I said think them out and make them need to regroup, or be easier to kill on the door.

In all, guards are not useless, the way people play make them that way.
Plain an simple the problem with that theory is, by time we get back from save by HORSE from dying with the meat shields, the outer gate is broken or at 15% or less HP. An we have maybe killed 4-5 tops outside. Instead of if timed correctly and working as a group our areas on the gate might actually kill enough to slow them down, but since we tried to use the idiot meat shields 50m away from the gate we don't even have that chance. Now if we are talking there is say 1-3 extra guards then yes, I agree, fight outside...retreat when necessary because numbers are more even and perhaps by time the some get back from save the gate will not be destroyed....but even then it might. So yes it is just a war game and no I don't care about dying, but I at least want to die when I have the best chance of actually hurting the enemy group, not where I die then have no shot to hit them in unison when they are all bunched together like almost every invasion on Horus goes.

I never said it was the best way. I also sit inside and wait ect ect.
But what I did say was an example of how to use the guards. Being a good player isnt about winning, its about using what you have. whether it be small or great. Its disheartening to see people not think of all options before making rash desicions. "he killed me he must be hacking." "They invaded guards are useless." kind of thing. Fighting with them isnt the best choice. But it is a way to make them more useful.

Well I am not making a rash decision on why I believe the guards are completely not helpfull in the current format. I have defended many times an I can give many reasons as to why they are in fact useless as they are. Like I said, I am not asking for A dragon to spawn at the gate every time there is an invasion, I simply believe that if they are going to give extra guards they should be better thought out and desgined in how they work. But since this argument is completely irrelevant to this topic I won't respond any more after this. If you still wish to discuss it my PMs are always open.

On topic: NGD please do review how your system works for if and how many extra guards there are. As many times the number seems completely oblivious to the actuall player count that was fighting or getting ready to fight at the gate at the time when it goes in danger.
