Gate Guards
This thread is in response to the ignis invasion of syrtis today, but it's not a rant about how "Ignis are hackers" or any of that bs. Congratulations on your invasion. You guys were very organized and we were not, in my opinion. But.....
Why the heck does Syrtis never have any gate guards? I've heard several theories why we don't, but I'm still curious. Looking at the War Status section of the website, it's obvious that we're not overpopulated (Do not derail this thread with underpopulation/overpopulation comments please). But why is it that there have been times when we've only had 10 people defending a vulnerable gate during Syrtis' night time, yet no guard captains? Today, it was a clear fact that ignis had much more than we did........what the hell happened to our GC(s)? All the other times when our gate was made vulnerable during our inactive hours..........why did we get no guards and guard captains? Does somebody here know something we do not? Is this just another bug in this unstable game or is there a specific reason as to why we don't get gate guards?

The GC spawns at realm gates has always been questionable as far as I can remember, it should really be looked into. Unfortunately it doesn't make much difference anyway, guard captains are really no help against an invasion zerg; most of the time the defenders don't even bother trying to use them because area spam on the gate is more effective.

Saw the post so ignis decided to see what was wrong. So we came back and invaded again and u had 2 GCs this time . Like said earlier they dont really help much against zerg though.

I’m sure ignis only decided to invade again once they read my post and only because they wanted to help test the guard system; I doubt that they decided to invade again because they had so many and wanted to collect the gems again (as they’ve done repeatedly in the past).
You claim that they spawned during your second attack and I’m sure they did, but why did they not spawn during the first and why did they not spawn during all the other unplanned invasion attempts when we had only a few online in the realm. The fact that they spawned during the second time makes me even more curious. This thread isn’t about how effective guards are in war or they’re overall usefulness in invasions nor is it about how Syrtis would have done better if we had the guards (we most likely would have gotten invaded either way). I just would like to know the mechanics behind the guard system and why they didn’t appear the other times.

There is also a Spanish thread (RA) about this topic (Guardias en puerta, inútiles) in which Syrtis complains about the same fact, that is that their guards do not attack the enemies. I saw a screenshot in which 15-20 guards were standing about 30-40m from the gate doing nothing while the attackers were breaking the gates, lol.
As this bug(?) has not yet been fixed I assume that it is not considered important enough as so many other things.... |

I think everyone knows extra guards are worthless as they're implemented now, its not about them actually helping out... Its more about the fact that every time Alsius or Ignis gate goes in danger they seem to get at least 1 guard (often times more). However when Syrtis gate goes in danger we rarely get any.
However, I think I know why this is... its because the section of code that handles the extra guard spawning looks like this: Code:
if(realm.complains_about_underpopulation == true) { realm.gate.spawn_extra_guards(); } Hahaha... but in all seriousness, assume guards worked properly and had to be killed before attacking the realm gate, it would have given the people standing outside a chance to get inside like we were telling them to the entire time As far as I'm concerned we would have defended much better had our defenders listened better... so much of the result of that invasion is because of us. Either way, invasions need to be removed or fixed there are plenty of threads about that...
