Good, now that I have all you Canucks in one spot;

Now, while not being familiar with all of your political leanings, I'd say I imagine that the people in this thread probably give a good representation of the demographic of the Canadian electorate.

That being said most of you are probably left/center-left, and there's probably one or two Harper-ites among you =p

Now for the reason for this post.

I am a deserter from the US military. I deployed to various places around the world, but I refused to take part in the occupation of the sovereign Republic of Iraq. I've lived in Canada for the last three years. There are at least two others like me that play Regnum.

So, why am I telling you this? There is a group of Canadians here called the War Resister's Support Campaign who along with Gerard Kennedy (former Director of the Daily Bread Food bank and current Member of Parliament for my riding of Parkdale/Highpark), have sponsored a bill in the House of Commons that would allow for conscientious objectors to remain in Canada and to apply for permanent residence. These Canadians have been pushing for this for the last six years. Their hard work has resulted in two motions in the House of Commons that would allow us to stay, but were ignored by the Harper Government.

So that brings us here, to bill C-440. Bill C-440 is due to go to second reading in the House on May 25th. This is a scary time for me. I need this bill to pass. I have a court-martial, and jail time waiting for me south of the border, as do the 200+ other people here like me (some with families and Canadian born children). Canada has traditionally been a safe-haven for guys like me. The Harper gov't. has been doing it's best to reverse that. I won't get into all my problems with Harper. That's for a different topic =p

So you wanna know what you can do to help!?

Call your MP. Write your MP. Tell them you support US War resisters and bill C-440. Make sure they show up to vote. We have the support ot the entire opposition. We just need them to show up and vote. Check out the sites, contact your MP, and most of all, thanks for three years of hospitality.

"Minnesota Wild are clearly the best"

Not this year... sigh...

Well I’m close enough to being Canadian - 2 grand parents from Canada - and live in Minnesota…
