shader model 3.0 on intel 4500MHD
Hi guys,
I would like to play RO with shader model. At the moment if I choose fixed pipeline or secure mode I can play, but if I select shader model 2.0 the pc will eventually stuck. I know that my video card supports shader model 3.0 but i have no idea how to select it. I have debian testing. Do you guys succeed in playing with shader model? Thank you |

Intel's have strange OpenGL implementation. Because of this RO do not work well with them. You better stuck with Fixed Pipeline or Safe Mode. To play at Shader Model 2 or higher you need some better graphics card - ATI or Nvidia.

If I could change the graphic card in my laptop I would do that, unfortunately I cannot do it. That said, I am looking for some other trick that I might be able to do..... |

First I'd suggest grabbing the mesa packages from unstable at least, if you haven't done so already. As you're using testing I'm going to assume you have some idea how to use apt-pinning and multiple distribution versions.
You might want to check http://wiki.debian.org/AptPreferences if not. I don't think this will help you get shader model 3.0 (AFAIK no mesa driver supports sufficient enough amounts of GLSL for shader model 3.0 just yet), but it may help stabilise your experience with model 2.0.

Thanks for the suggestion
Testing and unstable are now sharing the same package Debian packages website I could try to use the experimental package, but it would eventually break my X. I was hoping in some configuration, but if is a graphic driver lack I don't think there is something I can do then. Thanks |

Mesa (which the 4500(M)HD uses on Linux) does not yet support everything for shaders to work in RO, but there's ongoing work to support it.
I filed a bug about this a while back if you're interested in tracking progress: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28138 |
