How do these skills work and effect each other?
I have a question about a few Conjurer skills and the way they function.
The question is, How does Energy Barrier work? For example, I want to know more about how the skill functions, At level 5 it offers 1000 HP basically (or whatever you will call these 1000 points) When a player takes a hit and its subtracted from the Barriers' total HP/point limit, what reduction is in effect? Does it act as if the hit was to the player itself, taking into account his armor/resistance types, and whatever buffs he may have affecting himself as well? I am not sure if I explained it clear, but I am trying to as best as I can. If I were hit by for example, a Ripost, and my armor is very good vs pierce + I was using Force Armor to add a % of protection to reduce some damage points recieved, would the hit be reduced by that protection % and be subtracted from the Barriers' HP in the same procedure that would occur as if i were to be hit by an identical attack (for example say 650 damage Ripost) without having Barrier on but otherwise same armor + Force Armor, with the damage being subtracted from my HP instead. (I'm trying to say that aside from having Barrier activated in one case, both situations were exactly the same otherwise) Or am I wrong totally and don't understand how this works, and Barrier ignores underlying AP/passive resists/types of resists/level of character/stats etc and takes damage without any type of reduction/layers at all or something similar to what I'm trying to describe? (possibly in a sense not taking into account the player at all, but only the Barrier and whatever means it uses to decide how much damage it will recieve from any attack?) I guess I am asking if that its possible that Ripost could or does hit my Barrier for the maximum damage allowed by the players stats/buffs/weapon, which may be, say 999 damage, even if I have another layer of defense added, whether its from my gear or armor resist stats or AP level, or spells affecting me (like Force Armor) so I'm simply wasting spells thinking they are helping reduce damage a bit more so Barrier lasts a bit longer or is more durable etc.. I am also wondering, if Steel skin affects Energy Barrier too? Since it reduces physical damage by a significant amount, a hit of 200 damage (reduced by steelskin to 99 damage, numbers are just for example) If Barrier was active combined with Steel SKin, would it take 99 damage? or would it take 200 damage and only be reduced to 99 if Steel Skin was the only spell active? I am just wondering if one may affect the others' performance. (possible scenario, player buffed with Barrier at 1000 points, and Steel Skin 60% A knight attacks the player with Barrier+Steel Skin, would he be doing damage to the players' Barrier at his average damage rating? (lets say 200 damage a hit if he were to hit the mage when he wasnt using Steel Skin) Would it take about 5 hits to Destroy the Barrier at 200 damage a hit, or would the Barrier be under effect of Steel Skins damage reduction and possibly take 10 or more hits to destroy because its reduced to 99 damage a hit? Just wondering how these work is all, because its not very clear to me and I can't find any info relating to them. Does Karma Mirror also work in combination with (removed Barrier typo HERE and replaced with->) STEEL SKIN effectively, or is the damage returned a portion of the already reduced damage from Steel Skins' resists damage %, and not worth using both at the same time because returned damage would be so a small amount? (if i were to use Steel Skin + Karma Mirror and be hit by an attack of 200 damage, that was reduced to a 30 damage hit by Steel Skins' resist damage % limit, With Karma Mirror reflecting 30% of that 30 damage back to the attacker? wouldnt this return damage be very low? So I want to be clear on that, whatever damage steel skin reduces, is what karma mirror will be using as a % to be reflected back? Am I assuming this is what happens with my very very limited understanding, or am I way off and totally wrong and need to be taught correctly? I hope I made sense, spelling errors, lack of clear descriptions, and sorry if I wrote a bit too much! Last edited by EstrellaRoja; 10-02-2010 at 06:34 AM. First of all, as long as the barrier is effektive, the dmg is taken from it, not from you. So you get 0 dmg, until barrier is down. When there are more then 1000 dmg, you'll get the rest effecting you.
The dmg subtrated from the barrier is effected by your armor/resists and other spells. So the dmg that would effekt you without barrier is taken from it. In case of using steel skin and barrier, stell skin reduces the dmg which is taken from barrier. So your barrier holds on much longer, because of getting lesser dmg. By using karma mirror with barrier it's wasted mana. Karma mirror reflects part of dmg YOU recive. Using barrier means, you'll get 0 dmg so karma mirror will reflect a % part from 0. I hope I was able to help you.

Karma mirror is useless as long as eb is running, as darc said it only reflects dmg you received, with eb its 0. I can remember that my eb saved me from spells like lightning before the dot/armor rework completly which would not have been possible if resists/armor points wouldnt reduce the dmg eb sucks so i guess they work.

Yes this helped
I wrote this when I was half sleep so i didnt clarify a few things more. I did know not to use karma+barrier already (trial and error when I first was trying skills out) I meant to say in the last section "does Steel Skin work with Karma Mirror" but instead wrote Barrier...so i will re edit that, sorry! only thing I was asking is why functions that way, if it was a design to prevent it being a bit OP in some situations (having a shield +also reflecting that dmg back would be annoying) so mainly I was trying to just figure out how it works I guess technical wise, or whether it is simply broken and IS supposed to work like this. I know how barrier functions, reducing HP from it as if it were my own, but my problem was not being clear as to whether or not I could stack defensive buffs onto it as well, and have barrier take into account that. So yes my questions were answered good enough for me, thanks you two |
