Question Game lag in Fedora

The game lags very much in Fedora 15 x64 to a point that its almost hard to play.
I have installed the nvidia driver as it should and when i run
Code:
glxinfo | grep direct
it say that i have direct rendering:

Code:
$ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: Yes
    GL_EXT_Cg_shader, GL_EXT_depth_bounds_test, GL_EXT_direct_state_access,
My graphics card is Nvidia 8600 GT, so it should run the game fine.
So what is rong here? How do i fix this?

Thanks for help.

how is the lag? Is it constantly low fps or does it sometimes drop to 1 fps and hangs many several seconds or crashs even?

I use also Fedora 15 but with Radeon card. Are you using gnome shell, gnome 3 fallback mode or another desktop?

I tried Fedora 15, didnt work much good. I switch to LUbuntu with much great results.
I think the lag is made with the Gnome 3.....mix with regnum....

You installed binary and compiled for your system or you installed the precompiled versions from repository?

I saw this list of issue unders some Linux distro(on NVidia 9500GT):
-Fedora:low video performance with video drivers from repo;
-Ubuntu lose packages because some aditional services that running by default;
-Mandriva low performance by version of video drivers;
-Debian very good performances if you compile binary video drivers;
-Puppy Linux Live cd:Fuking hight performances : over 240 fps on shader 2.0 low details.

You`ve reinstall os to change DE?!
As for the gnome 3 (kde4, compiz) — these DE/WM use OpenGL and composite, so your videocard has additional burden and different picture issues and incompatibilities of any other 3d-software are possible.

Use blackbox, for example. I use second X with blackbox for full-screen games, so I can swith to another X (with another wm) anytime and do not care if any game hangs.

low details.
What drivers from what repo?
Nvidia or noveau?
There is no fedora Vs. other distros, there is nvidia vs noveau (free, but slow and without full support of hardware yet). Noveau is default variant for Fedora, but there are nvidia drivers in non-free-repos too, let alone you can install nvidia proprietary drivers from NVidia`s website.
