Alsius Archer can not complete killing 5 snow cubs quest

I am new to this game and have created my character as an Archer of the Alsius region (Nordo Race) but when issued the above quest I am unable to complete because I have no equpped weapon, indeed the only weapon I have are the 600 initian arrows and no bow. I also have created a Mage character and can immediately use the staff and complete the quest. I have deleted the archer and recreated him as well as creating a totally differently named one and I still have the problem. I am running Vista Ultimate. I have also been getting a Direct 3D error on game start but this doesn't seem to stop the game from loading.

This is a bug with the latest patch. I'm sure NGD will get this fixed ASAP.

This is where some freindly alsius steps in and gives you a low lvl bow...

Yup exactly...kinda...self help....played as a mage then gave a new archer some money to buy for both of us then logged back in as the archer...life continues.
