Had the same issue with an HP Envy using the (7690m) crashing on shader 4 before startup. Since HP's drivers are outdated and ATI drivers wont install (as HP are modified versions so hardware mismatch causes abort)

ATI recently did release the 12.2 pre certified drivers though, which solved my crashes at least.
