hanging computer

Okay. Here's my system.

Sony Vaio PCG-GRX670
Mobility Radeon 7500 w/ Omega Drivers
Pentium 4 2GHz
512 ram

Issue:
I load the game and login just fine. When I choose my character and click play, the computer freezes up and I have to hold the power button and reboot to do anything. I've tried toggling openGL/Direct3D, reinstalling the game, force safe mode, everything and nothing seems to work. I'm at a loss especially since I played the game on my girlfriends laptop with much lower specs. Please help.

Are you playing on windowed mode? Maybe your antivirus or firewall is asking you to allow the execution of the game while it is stuck at fullscreen.

I'm not running any antivirus or firewall, and the game inexplicably ran last night for a while, but when I tried to play again later it started to freeze up my laptop again. So I know the game works, and plays fine on low settings, I just don't understand why it's crashing my laptop

Check the temperature of your CPU, chipset and hard disk. Maybe it's due to overheating.

That's the point i'm trying to make. I can't play cause it freezes when it's loading resources for the game world. If I could post temps I would but I can't even get to playing.

Did you install the latest drivers? :S

I have the best dirvers, the omega drivers, which I needed to even get the intro vid and realm selection running right. The problem is that when I click Play on the char selection screen, it starts to load resources, then locks up my computer. The mouse turns into a black block wherever it may be and the top part above the loading pic disappears to black as well.

UPDATE: I tried running the game in windowed mode and my whole screen went blank.

What's your videocard model? What's your driver's version?

Why don't you try reinstalling DirecX9 to see if that works? Obviously you should run the game in Direct3D in case you do this, at least until you get another driver.

I had the game running at one point but I don't understand why it ran. I don't think the vid card has anything to do with it, because it's fully updated on dirvers, and it's much better than the one my girlfriend is currently playing on right now. But to appease you, I have a mobility radeon 7500 with the omega 3.8.252 drivers, the most up to date for my vid card. I'm doing a virus scan/spyware scan on my laptop right now and then I'll try playing again

So I got the problem fixed. A techie friend of mine suggested bringing down the hardware acceleration and it works just fine now. Thanks for all the help though and hope to party or battle with you ingame.
