Indeed, it all began with Monty Python. Even a programming language is named after them! Real modern, excellent, "innocent" humor was based in them. In Argentina we have the Les Luthiers, an "equivalent" to Monty Python if you compare the jokes...

actually the python language has more than just the name in common: In most languages when you use some temp variable, you'd name it foo,bar,foobar,barfoo or anything like that. In python it's usually spam, spam_and_eggs etc
