Default Ubuntu 8.0.4 and ATI 9800 XT.

Hi all. I have just downloaded and successfully installed Regnum. Unfortunately after I enter my login details and submit, I get an error come up saying my Video Card is unsupported. I have an ATI Radeon 9800 XT with Direct Rendering enabled. Does anyone have some suggestions please?

Default I've got an ATI Radeon Mobility HD 2600 Series

I've been able to run Regnum fine after a little bit of tweaking. Thing is, now it's telling me my card/drivers are too old again.

I'm going to go to ATI's website: http://www.amd.com/us-en/
and install the latest drivers. The repositories for Ubuntu are usually a little slow on these drivers, so it's best to get it from the website rather than through aptitude or apt-get

Make sure you know exactly what you got by typing
Code:
lspci
in a terminal. You should find "VGA compatible controller" easily enough.

If installing the latest driver's doesn't work, just wait until the next update to the game engine. That's what I had to do last time.

It's a fine card.., i assume that you are using the open source module, and it works with dri on it (please recheck this "lsmod | grep fglrx" should be enough). You could still use it, though there are lots of textures that you wont see (you'll see a white surface on them), or you just can install catalyst drivers for that video card, latest ati drivers support your card correctly so you only have to install them the best way ubuntu recomends.. (look them up in synaptic or use aptitude as you prefer), then modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf so it works with catalyst (just replacing Driver "ati" with Driver "fglrx" usually works).

If you really like to keep you system not tainted (no propietary kernel modules).., try enabling S3TC textures with driconf, but as i say before, you'll miss a lot of textures. (there was a link on this topic from years ago, lets see if i find it..), i did [1]
