for the people who have old pc with linux
hi all,
my pc is rated old for many of the usual players, i used to have ubuntu (8.10 cause newer version doesnt support my gfx card) and i was able only to play in safe mode without audio and in minimal resolution (800x600x16 with no fx at all, only in full screen mode) my gfx card is a radeon x550 i'm used to try sometime new distro to find difference and learn something and for pure luck i try this one pclinuxos damn, with that i can play at 1024x768x16 (and also 32 bit) with all the nice fx , also weather, and full audio support (installing the openal library finding those missing openal with http://rpm.pbone.net/ search system.. so if you have an old pc and want to give it a try i can say thumb up!

Maybe you can do it in ubuntu too if you update him to 9.10 or maybe wait for 10.4.

MT, Always run your radeon at 32bpp (unless it's "Legacy" PCI). 16bpp is slow on the GPU (r200+ expands 16bpp to 32bpp in the instruction stream every time a texture is rendered).
Oh, and the "radeon" driver that comes with the kernel/mesa is totally better than fglrx for any chip older than an r600 now (except it might not support S3TC properly, which is bad 'coz regnum needs it).

assistance to older v.card with driver) also ubuntu, for what i know is deep fat, have so much inside and probably is not so fast as this one (that is really really faster in my old pc) Yesterday i remove another ubuntu to a friend of mine (clan mate, also) and he can move to 640x480 in safe mode (ubuntu) to 1200x700 (circa dont remember exactly the res) with sound (sound lag indeed !) and all gfx and weather eyecandies on... That's another game with eyecandies on! update: also my brother (also a clanmate too) install pclinuxos (removing windows ) and his old pc can play the game better... probably this distro (like many others) have minimal "sideeffect" and minimal "others service" activated by default, instead distro a la "all-service-active-and-running" like ubuntu (and many others) have... so for having a emergence distro that run regnum fast i suggest this one... at the moment we are 3 happy players (now) (n.b.: i know that ubuntu can be tweaked to run really faster than the actual "as is" iso , but this can't be done without blood and swet, and i really have not the time to do the tweak on all friends that i convert to linux...) i am an old posix sysadmin and i would gladly have slack only on my home.. but my wife prefer ubuntu so i've to find a middle way (pb? where we usually fight? ) and apparently this weird distro do the job... to arafails: tnx for the suggestion, really don't know this and i've already done the change.. 32 bit so and gooo and with mesa i would be able to let regnum do the work..

I mean the opensource DRI stack (on Mesa) did 3D acceleration on my GF's old laptop's X300 better than fglrx ever did last time I checked....

to ubuntu again with mesa (but i really hope that this not happen... not again! ) ----- asking for help : in my pc (pclinuxos) the sound in regnum work perfectly i've OSS configured and openal installed, the sound is smooth and perfectly sync with the game (no 1-2 seconds of lag in sfx) obviusly i'd tweaked something... but what? (remember: never, NEVER, try to fix things in late hours ) i'm trying to find what i've done to have the sound perfectly working in the 2 pc's of clan mates that have same distro but sounds laggy (it have 1-2 seconds of delay on sfx) i put in them OSS too but appear that is not enough... damn my mind being near 40's give the first sign of agin..
