Is downtime worse than lag ?

I think it would be quite acceptable to have a couple hours of downtime once a week to do general maintenance, and if indeed this was the what was referred to in the first post then lag is worse.

If the original poster meant downtime as in server crashes or frequent planned downtime (maintenance every day) I'd say downtime would be worse.
