Talking Puppy Linux Ro Gaming Version

havent tried it yet will soon

Puppy Linux Gaming Version

The main reason that this version of Puppy
(called Growler) came into existence is because my kids wanted a
computer that they could play games on. I wanted Puppy Linux on there
instead of some other operating system.

There is an extensive list of games, not the least of which is the
online game Regnum. To play Regnum, I suggest you create an account
from their website first, then click on the Regnum icon in this puplet
and enjoy. .

I've just tested, i managed to get it working, but it won't run smoothly in a system with less than 1G/1.5G ram (with/without swap) and an usb key if you want to play RO :
  • you have to copy the cd to ram to make RO working smoothly (650M ram + around 100M for the system itself)
  • you have to install nvidia/ati drivers (oh it's very easy don't worry)
  • the RO version is OLD :]

Due to the fact it runs on ram, it's fast, i get ~+20% FPS compared to my HD install, but loading the CD to ram takes time indeed. IMHO if the computer you want RO running has Linux too, it's better to copy your game directory to an usb key and install it on the "foreign" machine than using this live CD.

In order to install the nvidia drivers,
  • Boot with an usb key plugged
  • Download the package there, save it to your home directory : http://download.tuxfamily.org/nop/NV...-k2.6.21.7.pet
  • Click "Install" on the desktop
  • Choose the second method, give it your .pet you've just downloaded
  • Let it modify xorg.conf for you
  • Close Xorg (ctrl-alt-backspace)
  • type startx at command prompt
Now the NVIDIA logo must appear if it's ok and you can play RO.

At reboot and shutdown it will ask you to save parameters and files to disk, say yes. Enjoy
