Completely unofficial server status image
Hi,
I recently developed a software to create a png image of the server stats, because I wanted a status on my clans home page. My clan is a mostly german speaking one, feel free to visit us If you want to use my server stats images please visit my website first and read the f.a.q. @Regnum staff I won't give source code or binaries to anyone because I am aware that this could lead to heavy load on your web server. Currently I poll your website at average every 5 minutes, regardless how often the image is requested. If you want me to shut my service down, please leave a posting here and I will do so the minute I read it. If you want me to poll the server in larger intervals, please let me know and I will change the poll interval. ## edit Maybe you are interested in my other project, a warlock spell table with a build script or a startup script and key reassignment. Hello Meldanen,
This is a new situation for us and as the game progresses in terms of how many people are playing, we find ourselves updating our policies on a regular basis. A good idea on our part would be to offer a RSS service that could be used by fan-sites to poll for server status. For now, a 5 minutes poll from your application is acceptable. As soon as we detect any strain on the server, we will do something about it and let you all know. Regards

names would be nice, if you needed to externally know some names who were online. Then a script could be created for clansites too to know which of their members were onlnie

Hmm... I have another idea. You could make the server post a "flag" file (could be a rss feed too) with the time every 2 minutes. The only thing you would need is to obtain that file and compare (with the last time obtained from server) if the time changes every 5 minutes. If you get the same time stamp or you recieve no answer, then the server is down.
The advantage is that you can make another server host that feed (and some other files) and don't overload the server with pinging orders.

Yes, the image is great. So far I haven't includes it at regnum-online.de
What would be interesting for the visitors of our fansite is the warmap. Is it allowed to include the graphics from the official page, or are there other possibilities to show the war status on our page ? |

We have yet to decide a policy on this.
If the server starts being hit hard with requests, we will be forced to deny hot-linking (this includes trying to request the war status image directly). But if that's the case, we will probably offer some RSS feed with the status, just like the server status. Our focus now is on finishing the game, after we launch we will increase focus on the community aspects. Regards
