Sound no longer functions

After the most recent update (1.08), I played the game several times. After about the 3rd play session, I no longer was able to get sound.

I have changed/tested
- options and resetting sound within game
- different options settings in regards to sound on game boot up
- tried other applications using sound (they work)
- affecting all my characters, not just one

Do I need to delete a file & if so which one? Any help is always appreciated.
