500-4000 ping with a 10 Mbps Internet
I just upgraded by Internet speed to 10 mpbs. THIS IS NOT MY CONNECTION TO MY MODEM (usually 52 Mbps) but my download speed. But my ping is still the same. When I run it's 600ms, when I stand it's 500ms, and when I fight in large scale battles it's averagely 800ms. I get frustrated sometimes as it jumps to 4 seconds or some horrible number like that. Is there any way I can reduce ping? I have downloaded things on the net recently from different global websites with speeds no less than 400 Kbps. Also, this bad ping has been around since my suckass 0.5 mbps connection. So it's not a change but rather constant that should have improved. Here are sone factors that might affect it.
1. My location. I'm in Asia. 2. Bandwidth hackers. (Im a little iffy on that one) 3. Lots of people on the server (Horus?) if you can give me a solution, great! If you can't, then it's perfectly fine. My clan mates have not been able to help really and I figure it's because they're closer to Swedeb and they don't have ping problems. Please help, i'm not much of a computer guy. Last edited by FlyingDeadBirdie; 03-07-2011 at 01:01 PM. Reason: I said 'the' Argentina |

Well if the change occurred when you upgraded your connection, it's probably a problem with your connection.
Did you also change any of your network gear? (router, modem, network interface) If not, then my bet is that it's a problem on your provider's end, their 10MBit lines could have compromised latency for more bandwidth. Bandwidth and latency are different properties, I've gamed on some 1Mbit lines with better ping than on some other 24Mbit ones. Just as a precaution however, try connecting with a cable on your modem instead of doing it wirelessly, see if that helps. If that doesn't help, contact your ISP and/or check the WAN settings on your router.

I don't know if this really works but you can give it a try http://www.regnumonline.com.ar/forum...ght=PT_DaAr_PT
Also, the servers are in Sweden. |

Thanks for the solution, Miraculix. First of all though, my ping has been like this since I started. Second, I've downloaded content from iTunes and other websites with no speeds below 400 Kbps. I also play modern warfare 2 on local servers with 49 ms ping at the worst. So I'm sure it's not a problem concerning my provider. I'll make sure to edit my original post. Thanks anyway.

You are in Asia - Horus is in Europe. It is not only about connection speed, this delays can be from time your packets need to travel from Asia to Europe.

You can use command traceroute to see if your ping is delayed in some node. And about local server ,well it's normal ,it's near your pc or in your pc |

Thanks Daar and ieti for the replies. I'll try the fix out but I doubt it will work. @ieti: yeah, I think so too, I played halo 2 on global servers with everyone teleporting too. But is there anyway to solve this really? My friends play WoW (which sucks compare to Regnum IMO), in SHANGHAI with 100 ms pings. So maybe it's just too many people on the Internet in my area?

Well Blizzard keeps multiple servers around the world. If your friends connect to a server that is located in Asia this gives them comfortable gameplay.
I live in Bulgaria and have 70 - 90ms pings to Horus. My ISP keeps good connectivity to Telia.

Keep this in mind: For those of us east of the middle east, our internet path to Sweden is generally routed through the US. This is by way of being the long way around. The RO servers are quite literally on the other side of the Internet.
For reference: I live in Australia... On a good day I can get 350ms ping. Average is around 390-420. I periodically get really bad days when it floats above 1200 permanently (I don't play on these days). Once or twice my connection has been routed through Saudi Arabia instead of the US. While a shorter path, it was a worse connection because of the much smaller pipeline (more congestion with the same amount of traffic).

I don't expect or demand NGD to create an Asian or Australian server for Horus soon. So I guess I'll have to live with it. But honestly, it's getting really irritating. I can never kill anyone without worrying about crashing. Thanks guys for replying. I guess there's no need for this topic anymore so maybe some mod or admin will come close it.
