Default Will Someone Please Explain to Me How a Conj Gets XP in a Group

I just spent an hour grouped with a fighter three levels higher than me and only got XP for about 10% of the kills. The whole time he was loaded with buffs, and heal over time spells.

I asked my Clan, and they tell me that unless you cast a spell during combat, or do 10% of the damage to the mob, you do not get XP. IS THIS TRUE?

I have been playing healers for more than 30 years now. We do our work when it is needed, not when it is fortuitous for us to get XP. Should I waste my mana casting spells when no one needs them, only to be out of mana when they do? If I have an active buff on you, like bless, or feline grace, while we are in combat, did I not co0ntribute to your success? Does that mean I did not help in the conquest? I cannot heal you if you are fully healed. Why am I penalized for doing my job between kills?

Let me give you a scenario:
I have three other players besides me in a group. We are fighting five mobs. All group members are buffed by me. We kill all five. I heal one member while in combat because he needs it. He is only in combat with one mob. I Heal the other two after combat because they did not need it during combat. I also refresh their buffs while we have some down time. I only get credit for one kill, and no credit for future kills, unless I spend mana during combat. Does this make sense?

If I am missing something here, please explain. This is becoming a deal breaker. I like this game, but if the dice are rigged against me, why bother? Like I say, I have been playing healers for 30 years. I want to play a healer. I know how to do my job. Why am I not getting credit for the job I am doing? What am I doing wrong?

It is a little strange. Your buffs are counted only for current mob that is hit. So if you buff it and he kills mob you get XP. For next mob even buff is still active you get nada. Auras are different. If you use Mana Pylon, Mana Comm unless your allies receive hits and pylon absorbs damage or allies get mana you get XP. If i remember good damage percent was changed from 10% to 5%. Not so sure about that.

excellent point ieti.

I think there is some issues with grinding as a conju w/ someone a lot higher than yourself. But a lot of it has to do with conservation, buff + heal per kill etc.

10% to 5% for enemy players I believe, it remains 10% for mobs.

Let me add that you only get exp from a buff like bless etc if the buffed player makes a NORMAL HIT after the buff, and not a spell. whyever that is...

When supporting a single warrior you can get alot of experience using only Heal ally (of the maximum level you can get) if they remove their armor, and casting it every single time it is out of cooldown, but only when they are attacking a mob, not inbetween. I don't remember the system used, by some years ago if you cast a level 5 spell for example it counted as the equivalent of dealing 900 damage to the mob. For this reason spells like Mind push can also work - it's an area so you don't have to deselect the target you are healing, and it has a low CD. But it requires a high mental tree. Most mages who level in groups simply use auras and maybe some staff hits using SM, or buff their target every mob (heavy duty).

Different tactics work better with different classes, and for archers especially auras are the easiest.

It's been explained how to get XP with support conj extensively on other threads. See this one, for example:

well i support all the time and get loads of xp pretty much all you got to do is span any support spell i use 2 spells per mob usually and get around 150-200 xp per mob easiest to spam enchants bc they have fast cooldown and take little mana

Yeah, the way support conjus get credit for kills really is garbage. Not only does it make no sense, but teaches leveling conjus that the best way to play is to spam auras and buffs every time they cooldown...

I made my conjurer to lvl 44 year ago just by support - it is pretty easy, and I disagree you have to spam... I did not even use auras...

The only thing I would do with (support) conjurers is to ask (again) NGD to move ambitious sacrifice down level or two... It is really hard to level conjurer under level 21.
