View Full Version : Will Regnum ever upgrade graphics?

I am wondering if Regnum will ever upgrade the graphics, something similar to say, Savage 2. I *LOVE* Regnum, but the graphics are a bit simplistic. Savage 2 has incredible graphics, but its not a very "open" ended game like Regnum is.
Are there any plans in the near future to do something about the graphics? Im running a fast dual core processor with 4gm of ram and a 500mb nVidia card.
Right now, Id say the graphics are whats keeping me as a once in a while free user, as opposed to a paying customer buying Ximerin.

This certainly has crossed our minds several times now. Although for now is not on our immediate plans as we have more pressing matters. With invasions just out of the oven, we are taking a good look at what's going on and what we are going to do next year.
On the other hand, our technology and art department have both improved a LOT over time (Id wish I could show you proof but we won't just yet) so the talent is there, we just need to find viable means to do it (i.e.: funding, If the trade-off is worth it, etc).
It also is a complicated decision because people are used to a certain type of graphics. Changing anything could have dire consequences, even if it's for the good. So in that regard, It wouldn't make sense to do a simple improvement to the characters, it should be more of a drastic makeover, which of course, enters the terrain of "we don't have the required resources, yadda yadda...".
Finally, we constantly do some enhancements here and there. But this is usually done on a needed basis.

If they do that then the screen will flicker none stop like on Second Life... :confused2:
Please improve the Engine.
I can't even activate the graphics that are already there.

+1, this is the main problem with graphics right now (it's quite decent-looking if you turn everything on, but then I will have 2 FPS constantly in fortwars and low FPS elsewhere).
And my hardware isn't that old, it's just that I think a better support for multi-core CPUs and more dependency on GPU (thus lesser need for CPU) could mean a lot of improvements for many of us.
As of now, this game runs smoother on a 3.4GHz P4 single-core CPU than on my 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo (the rest of the hardware is "similar").
With improvements in the engine, an update of the graphics (not just models, but also nice shader-techniques and such) would be really appreciated.
Keep up the good work!

I would prefer unique animation for each spell first.
Then we can talk about better graphics, generally I would just prefer better face layouts, becase right now the faces look kinda ugly,

I would prefer more stability and a better fps over better looking graphics like post#1, graphics are only first impression but it's the game play that keeps you going.
The graphics are good as they are I don't really care that much

Well, i dont share your opinion about simple improvements, there are a lot of things than you can do to sightly improve the game look.
---Animations---
1) Add more attack and skill animations, i always swing my hammer in the same way(barb), its boring.
2) Some attacks like beast attack have a different animation, but is almost no used.
3)consistent buff look, some unsheathe you weapon, some don't.
None of them should, and they should have a animation that has sense.
Off with their heads - Forceful blow (wtf)
--world--
1) Add -real- stairs, not just a ramp with a darkened diffuse. this might require some coding so they dont block you.
2) Trunks.. they have exactly the same problem, just a dark texture.
3) is that big tree in merca pinos FLYING? Maybe you fixed it in this last update but...
4) trees are hexagons, i think they can use some more polys now.
--Weapons--
Look at 2 handed maces... my dwarf cant even hold them because the handle is so short, and in the sheath animation while he uses both hands only one holds the mace.
Some look too small compared with hammers.
What im trying to say is that remaking everything (except for char models, because be are looking at them 99% of the time) is a insane amount of work and i dont think it will pay off, but what you currently have could use some polish.

Im satisfied that I can play this game on GeForce 4 (MX4000) graphics card with 20-40 fps in most places although i have most of the options disabled or lowered. The area that is killing my graphics card are swamps and their stupid mist.
@NGD: if ur gonna upgrade graphics plz dont raise the minimum requirements.
What should be done first are stupid bugs when you run by a rock (or other obstacle) and ur stopped. The actual obstacle for moving is bigger than the size of the object seen. And there's alot of such things, try to run on a horse by Meleketi stairs - pain (that stairs are just too narrow).

I agree with theotherhiveking (+1). You don't need a haulover, you just need to add things/ fix graphics bit by bit. It will mean less work for you, less bugs for us and no players will be leaving as the minimum requirements will stay the same. Where there is a will (and theres a lot of them in the form of players), then there will ALWAYS be a way. :)

I want to reiterate I love this game a lot. A main reason (right now anyways) is that its free and you have the option to do more if you want. For those of you in Argentina who went through the monetary collapse, well, we here in America will face this fate really soon Im afraid. So for me, ever dollar counts right now (ok, every silver coin, every flashlight, every can of food). But, the game play is great. Ive yet to go into the center round, Im only a lvl 18 elf fighter. Id like to do more in the game, thats for sure. One thing, for me anyways, is to add more scenery. If Im in a forest, 20 or 30 trees would be great instead of a forest of three trees. You get my point. The land is bare most places.

A big issue is that Regnum dosnt use most peoples Hardwear to the full potential, this is certainly something NGD should be working on before thinking of improveing the games look overall, on with everything high it looks quite nice but is ubplayable in battle (for me), the only minor change id like for now would be faces :P the eyes look like they were done in paint :o

please don't change anything with the graphics, the game suffers from fps drops with outdated gfx engine, it'll be unplayable with sometihng newer :D

FPS/Ping >> Game content >> Graphics
Graphics are ok as they are now, it is FAR more important to actually be able t play against 50 people in the PvP parts of the game. I think they have a decent market now who can afford premium quests, premium areas and more stuff to keep the cash flowing...... I mean just look at Runescape, a game that runs in the browser, has uglish graphics....but heck I bet Jagex is making some good money with it.
Anyway... yes, at least for me, it is far more important to actually be able to play rather than looking at how good the textures look.

Why is it always about graphics? I would love to be able to point and click my char thru a doorway rather then complain abt graphics.
But seriously, will there be any improvements to character control?
Performance first, then worry about looks, especially now invasion is among us.

Heres a thought why not make it a choice like at the beginning of the game choose the "Upgraded" graphics or the "Standard' graphics that what they did on runescape and i heard it attracted alot of people. Plus that way if you dont have and up to date PC you can still enjoy the greatest MMORPG EVER(i am refering to Regnum):clapping5365:

jesus , the plp with the graphics... understand this , the graphicas we got now are perfect , look if we got problems with lag with this graphics , if we had lineage2 graphics or other game it would be a fking massacre u couldnt even move.. so i think that wouldnt be a upgrade since no1 could move... well this is what i think , the graphics now arent that bad and are perfect.
