I think NGD has thought over that before deciding on the present system. In horus, Alsius have been kinda weak. If Invasions are to have an permanent effect like expansion of territory, then they would not have any territory left to defend soon. A weak realm would just become weaker. The current invasion system has been well thought over by NGD without giving the invading realm too much/everlasting power.
And yes server lag/ glitches are a totally diff issue which they have promised to fix with the new engine. Lets wait and see...

In the polls, the only reason people dont want invasion is because of the server lag in Ra.
In horus, the verdict (at this moment) seems to be split. May be they should have diff servers for PvE, RvR(with invasions), RvR(without invasions) and give the choice to move to which ever you want This is a case in many other mmorpgs too.

I predicted that some great shift in power would come about with invasions, you invade, your realm gets stronger, you are more able to invade, so you invade your realm gets stronger, you are more able to invade, and so on and so on, clearly Ignis is the "big winner" with invasions, and I doubt that will change.

Maybe, but you also forget that when a something is pushed to the lowest point possible, then it will always bounce back. In the case of this logic, if Alsius had all territory lost but the un-capturable, then they would become more organized by grouping together.

It seems like it would be the way you describe it, but I think it would work similarly to fort wars. Its not so hard to capture something when your opponent has to split all over the map, same would go for land, you cannot hold it all at once easily.

Its all just a theory though, but I doubt it would work with the current map either. Maybe if NGD does that land expansion one day..

Unless NGD does action by force ?

That's great in theory, but it doesn't really reflect what I've witnessed. People get beat down over and over, to their lowest point, and simply quit playing and find a new game to play...

Gems need to have some sort of protection in cities some guards or a small tower.

new wishes in the portal something that will make players want to invade!

some defence at the gate tower barricades and such to make it less of a door/area/death fight! :P

and redoing the castles make them possible to defend with any class
+1

I never played RO before there were invasions so my opinion is based on a somewhat distant and wholly subjective point-of-view.

However, before invasions, what was the ultimate goal in capturing a fort and/or castle? Now at least there is a goal, an objective for a realm to strive for.

Of course it needs refining, lots and lots of refining. But what's the point of having a warzone (or a war) if there isn't anything being fought over or won?

There is more to risk and more to gain with invasions, and the incentives for being in the wz are more for each realm (mostly), if only the invasion system were revamped and the whole process more appealing for everyone to be involved in.

That is my hope for the future of invasions...

NGD dont do the same thing with invasions...

the server cant handle invasions anyway, it was fun for the first week but i think its time for it to go =(.

Actually invasion brought a goal to the fort capturing but did not encourage ppl to capture forts. The war nowadays is like chess. As soon as fort is captured ppl are running to the castle and sit there for hours while screaming "we're gonna be invaded".

Pre-invasion goal of capturing forts was to make hunting in that realm easier by taking a place to hide away from the said realm and more important for fights, pure fun with no stress from possible invasion. I remember huge fights where I was lagging like hell or small (up to 10vs10) fights. Also lots of ppl were trying to take a fort for fun - something that you almost can't even imagine now - which was creating hella open field wars when those groups met.

Least but not last, forts were easier to capture with weaker doors, weaker guards and no uberguard.

Please take into account that this comes from lvl 40 noob.
